Hey Go Travel, everything ok down your way?

Saw that the Charleston area got a pretty good hit from Gaston. 12-15 inches of rain? You probably don't have power. Check in as soon as you can!

I was wondering about GoTravel, too. Hopefully she'll check in soon.

Me too!! I'm a little worried the longer this goes. Hope she's OK, just off for a few days on some beach, a mojito on the table by her chaise! I'm afraid that isn't the case though.

What are things like for you now Statia? From the satellite picture you may be getting rain bands. It looks awfully close to you!

I sure don't like that track anymore. I sensed it was looking good for us for a while as things seemed to be shifting to the east, but now I'm not so sure. Still, it's so far away anything can happen--I'm just not as optimistic about that.

Well, the oil terminal is officially shut down, all the tugs and barges have been sent out to sea, and everyone is shuttered up (even the ATM is locked up tight). And, now we sit and wait. That sticky, no wind atmosphere is here, so the lower portion of her will be over us soon. I just hope she stays on a westward track and doesn't take a slight dip to the south during the night.

On a bright note, however, our cistern is down to six inches, so hopefully Frances will fill'er up.

OO-

The Red Cross relief workers staying at the hotel must be sweating bullets. I'm starting to feel a bit uncomfortable myself.

Scarlett,

I don't know if any of your stations up there have the newer vipor (sp?) radar but down here it's predicting that Frances will come in just south of Lake Okeechobee and continue on a northwest path.

I'm paying attention because vipor accurately predicted Charley's sudden turn in to Punta Gorda.

Fiddle dee dee!

Oh honey, we will just hope and pray that the damn things stays out on the water or something!
What are the chances of this Frances just fizzling out?

No one wants to know the mood of a certain Yankee since he heard about this new Hurricane.

Geez...I dreamed about GoTravel last night...that she had evacuated and was just caught in a terrible traffic jam getting back home! In my dream I couldn't imagine why that hadn't occurred to me before. Gads...It's bad when you start dreaming about your Fodors friends!

Vipor was amazingly accurate Jayne. You could tell they were seeing a turn and didn't really want to say it (channel 8, local weather) and give us a false sense that we were out of the woods...but they started to hint it was turning then waited until NWS actually announced it.

GoTravel...if you are still in that traffic jam...please stop somewhere and find an internet cafe! No seriously...hope you OK! This is a long silence.

Statia...how are things down your way now??

Not exactly sure where GoTravel is located but my brother and family arrived in hilton head last saturday under mostly sunny skies and spent the day on the beach. This is their usual week at HH and are used to the hurricane risk so were thrilled gaston missed them this time.

Thnking of all of you under siege from all these storms, especially GoTravel, since we haven't heard from her. Every time we start complaining up here in Toronto that the weather is a little dull or damp, I think about what's going on elsewhere and it's hard to complain. We have friends in Jacksonville and on Amelia Island; so far they're fine and cheerful, but I remember being shown damage from previous hurricanes the last time we were down there a few years ago. Let's hope all is well with everyone and that these storms blow themselves out harmlessly somewhere!

I've been reviewing that web site LMF posted the other day since she posted it. Can't seem to stop reading it.
Jayne, do you have a link to the viper radar?

I'm good! I feel bad that it has taken me so long to check in.

In a nutshell, the storm went on forever. I think it started early AM and lasted ALL DAY LONG!

High winds, sand blasted everything. Fortunately, we did not get much flooding.

hibiscushouse,

You can access it though the Tampa NBC affliliate at tbo.com. I just saw on our Brighthouse around the clock news that it's on a track to Jacksonville--but don't panic Scarlett--they don't have vipir!

Ellen Griswold--somehow your email address ommitted itself from my address book--please send me a note so that I can restore it!
