Help with romantic trip / proposal

Ok, I am proposing and want to throw a trip into it as well. Here are the choices I have came up with...feel free to suggest. Trip will be over a weekend.

1-NYC-fly and hotel, maybe a show. we have both been before but not together.
2-Cape Cod-fly, car, B&B, just relax, neither of us have been.
3-Finger Lakes-geneva / belhurst castle, drive and B&B. Relax, neither of us have been.
4-Toronto, relax, meander, neither of us have been.
5-Disneyworld, both of us have been, and this did not seem sensible, but, what the heck.

Also, if you can suggest something nice in the NY state area for a weekend in early september, chime up! No niagara falls please.

NYC. Pop the question:

At the Rainbow Room at the top of Rockefeller Plaza at sunset with a bottle of bubbly.

On the rooftop of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It over looks Central Park and has glorious views of Fifth Avenue, Central Park South, and Central Park West.

On a Circle Line Cruise.

In the middle of the Brooklyn Bridge.

At the Penn Top Bar (Penninsula Hotel).

At The Cloisters.

neil -- while I LOVE the finger lakes, I would say NYC. You want a very romantic story that she can brag about to all her friends, and also have a fond story to tell the grandchildren. My husband proposed to me in Venice, Italy and I'll never forget it.

I agree with GoTravel on this one -- someplace special in NYC would be awesome -- and it doesn't cost have to cost a dime! Imagine getting proposed to on the Brooklyn Bridge -- you could get her a picture of it and hang it in the house...everytime you both see it would be a great memory.

My first thought was to choose a place neither one of you has visited, but NYC is so romantic, that I agree with the above posters. If one setting does not seem right, there is always another romantic setting to suite individual tastes. Just make sure that her other visits to NYC were not with a former boyfriend, or other such unpleasant memories. Good luck, and congrats!

Ok, I decided!!!!

1. NYC-no, we have been, I have been a lot for work. We need peace and quiet, not the city...we will save that trip for closer to xmas.

2. Cape cod it is. Made a reservation at Capt Freemans Inn...looks nice and close to a beach. Morning breakfast out on the sand.

3 & 4. Both of these areas is close to where we will be for a couple years. Great for other weekend trips.

5. No, not until we have kids.

Hi. I know I'm a little late on this post, however, I hope you consider The Lighthouse Inn in West Dennis. We're making our 2nd journey to the Inn this summer and love it!

It's both family oriented (for future trips with kids -- yikes!) and ROMANTIC. As a matter of fact, they have many weddings there.

Breakfast is included and you can get a meal package that includes wonderful dinner with GREAT local seafood.

Stay in the main house - with a real working lighthouse. Private Beach, Pool, Tennis, Mini-Golf, etc. All inclusive joint.

Sooo relaxing. Great place to fly a kite!

In any event, good luck and congratulations!

The Captain Freeman Inn is perfect. Bikes provided, walk to a bay beach. Low tide is awesome. Pretty place. Get off route 6 and drive along route 6A to get there.

its been done before by a friend of mine.. but a great way to pop the question in NYC is to have the question flashed across one of the streaming billboards in times square.. my friend took his girlfriend at the time to Cafe D'Artistes (sorry if spelling wrong) for a romantic dinner and then to Times Square at the appointed time.. the whole concept seems pretty special to me.

Your decision would have to come down to your preferences. Sounds like the you could drive to the Finger Lakes & eliminate the flying hassles. Take a look at the Hobbit Hollow B&B in Skaneateles,NY.Definitely not the city but relaxing, beautiful, romantic, safe, and easily accessible to the wine & college environments.

neil - you didn't mention when this was going to happen. Did you go on the trip yet? How did it go?

Kaudrey-

The trip is over the end of August, so no, we have not been yet...however...

The ring came out sooner than expected ; ). Basically she planned something for me on my birthday. So I proposed to her then (and she said yes). It was kinda funny, because she knew I was planning the trip and was sort of expecting a proposal over the trip so I decided to throw her for a loop.

We are still going to the cape. But as an engaged couple! She has no clue as to where we are going...so it will still be fun with the suprise element.

I have started planning our wedding / honeymoon. We are having a small wedding (far away) and then throwing a large reception in Dallas (where we are from). Hopefully it will be a less formal stuffy reception. We are planning on honeymooning in Venice over the new year-neither of us have been there before.
