Help with Newark - Please!!!

I have searched this board and done research on my own, but can't find a specific answer to this question. The airline is holding seats for me for 24 hours so I need to decide quickly.

My 9:45pm flight out of EWR to Germany was cancelled and they are now offering a 5:15pm. My only other choice is to change airports and I don't want to do that. I can ask to leave work early but I hate to do that. If it is going to turn into taking 1/2 a day I won't do it. I probably wouldn't be comfortable leaving earlier than 2pm. If you have taken the trains from lower Manhattan to Newark Airport how long did it actually take to get to your terminal?

I know that according to the schedules it would take 45min from WTC to the terminal, I would like to know in real life how long this would take. It would be on Friday, 9/22. Since my husband can go early and check our bags I could arrive with carry on and go straight to the gate. I was told that I can arrive as late as 4:30pm for the 5:15. Believe me - I have no intention of timing this so that I arrive care-free at 4:29. I would just like real life experience of how long it has taken to get there and get through security.

I hate that they can freely throw a wrench in your plans like this.

Thank you so much!

don't take the train. there is an express bus that goes directly there that leaves from the north west coner of 34th street between 8th and 9th (but closest to 8th).
It is around $12.

Can't for the life of me think of the name. try calling port authority and ask them. Its direct, its quick.

good luck.

A bigger variable is how backed up will the security checkpoint be if you are running late. EWR can get real busy when you'd never expect it.

Even if you give yourself an hour to 1.5 hours for public transportation to the airport, you could need that time again as much to get through security.

I think I'd give myself at least 3 hours from lower NYC to get to the gate.

You could get there quick and through security quick...but you never know.

Start sniffling on Thursday, on Friday morning come down with the coughs, and at lunch get the shakes.

You'll get to Newark in plenty of time.

I should have mentioned that I don't think I want to take a chance with the traffic in and out of Manhattan at any time on a Friday. I also have to leave from downtown (I work on Water Street). Thank you though! Maybe I should look into car service. Even with traffic that probably wouldn't take more than 2 hrs. I am going to worry about missing this flight every day until I am (hopefully) sitting on the plane.

Damn my good work habits! The thing is I don't work for jerks - my manager will be throwing me out of here that day. I just HATE to even ask. We have a joke here about coming down with anal glaucoma (i can't see my a** coming to work).

My comment was obviously in jest but seeing how worked up you are over the timing of your new flight why not just leave work earlier (1 pm or so)? If you are going to be thinking about this for the next 40 days it seems that there is a easy and obvious solution.

If you have compelling reasons to not leave early (no need to justify them here) then of course you must do what you have to but 40 days of worrying over 1 or 2 hours seems like a lot of wasted emotional effort.

Good luck.

There's just no way to get to EWR on a Fri. for a 5:15 international flight without leaving NYC at about 2. End of story.
