Help with Hawaii HM
I was hoping to get some assistence from all of you concerning my HM planning. We are unable to go through a travel agent because we are using points for all of our hotel rooms in Hawaii (I use to travel ALOT with work). Anyway, that means I have to book all of my flights and interisland flights and car rentals and day trips by myself. Please help.....I am clueless.
I want to fly continental casue it is a direct flight. I have read that other people have flown direct to Maui rather then going through Honalulu. Which airline is that- I though continental only goes to Honalulou. Also, does anyone know about using continetal miles to purchase inter-island flights? Also, what kind of car should we rent in Kaui and what about Maui? Lastly, I have read that you can do day trips to some of the other islands from Maui (specifically Lanai)by Ferry. Does anyone know if its worth it? Any help would be great..
Thanks so much.

I believe Continental has a non-stop to HNL that connects on to Maui (OGG) that departs from EWR (Newark, NJ). Check www.expedia.com and www.continetal.com to compare rates and flight options and car rentals, some flights additionally connect through Houston (IAH). You can easily redeem miles for interisland flights if you call the Continental onepass service center 713-785-8999 or 713-952-1630.
Recommend a convertible or SUV for Kauai or Maui, usually can get discount rates by checking with Alamo or Dollar, at their websites.
I will shamelessly top my recent trip report about a day trip to Lanai. Enjoy your stay in

We just HM'd in Hawaii in Sept. It was great - i'm sure you'll enjoy it.
We flew directly out of Maui to San Fran. on United on our way home (our 1st stop was Oahu). They also have a direct flight inbound.
For interisland, I believe your only options are Aloha & Hawaiian, though they codeshare with the other major islands. If you are a AAA member, i just read that you can get a discount on Aloha.
for a rental car, we had a convertible on maui. It was perfect. the sky was really clear at night and i loved being the passenger looking up at the stars! also, it was great for the road to hana.
You can definitely day trip to Lanai - you can see the island from Maui. We didn't do this, so i have no info.

Thank You WuWuwu!!!! We are are using FF to fly from Toronto to Hong Kong to Hawaii and then home. I never thought about using airmiles within the islands.
I checked with Continental airlines (who's doing the trip above) and they want 10,000 points per trip and then I called American Airlines and they only wanted 5,000 per trip for the exact same flights on Hawaiian Air, so I just booked our trip from HNL to LIH and return and then HNL to ITO and return. All for just 20,000 points. That saved us over $600US, which is over $800 Cdn.
I love this forum for just this reason! Now we can seriously look at that waterfall helicopter trip on Kauai for $250US per person. <g>
Thanks again WuWuWU!
