Help w/extended stay hotels - DC area??

I'm going to be in DC for 2 weeks soon, doing some interviewing. Since it's at my own expense (!) hoping someone out there has some suggestions for where to stay?

Rather than staying in a hotel and eating out, I'm hoping to save $ by finding a reasonably priced, clean, downtown or NW area hotel that has kitchenette; or furnished corporate apartment; or a furnished sublet. But I'm not having much luck (I like the Res. Inn in Bethesda, but too expensive!) I don't know DC very well, except for the NW area (Woodley Park up to Bethesda). So something around there would be great.
Thanks for any and all help!
Sarah

We got a very good rate from the Best Western New Hampshire Suites, in Foggy Bottom, through www.washingtondchotels.com. Our room had a living area with sofabed, hallway with kitchenette, and bedroom.

We stayed at a Hilton at Rockville, MD. And there were several nice hotels in the area. We drove to a Metro Stop and rode the trains. This worked very well with our family. Check several of the saver sites on the web; they do give deals!

I like to stay at the Residence Inn in Dupont Circle. Breakfast is free and every weekday nite there is a "managers special" ( free)which is often quite enough for dinner. There are also some cheap and some expensive restauarnts nearby.

we stayed at the Embassy Suites at Dupont Circle. We had a full kitchen plus they had breakfast. They also had a laundrymat in the basement. We were able to walk to a Safeway.(actually it was quite a hike) The subway stop is only about 2 blocks away. I don't remember paying alot and the room came with 1 bed and a sofa sleeper. I know it was under $100. Actually, I think I got a real deal as it was listed in my Entertainment book. A friend went to D.C. about a year after I was there and it turned out she stayed at the same place and liked it lot. Its not real fancy but I thought it was perfect.

Try Washington Suites Georgetown (I think it is what the Best Western NH Ave is now called - but I could be wrong). We also booked at washingtondchotels.com, but while we were there, the hotel was advertising deals on extended stays. It is walking distance to Georgetown but 4 blocks from Foggy Bottom Metro stop

Hi Sarah,

Since you mentioned that you like the Residence Inn in Bethesda, you may also want to check out other long-term stay places by Marriott.

I know people who have stayed at the Spring Hill Suites by Marriott and Town Place Suites (both times in Gaithersburg, MD--about 15 min. N. of Bethesda. Both have refrigerators, but I don't know how big.)

From what I understand, the prices are a little more reasonably priced than the Residence Inn type of places.

I just went on to the marriott.com website, and pulled up each "brand" by itself. If you do a search that way, you can take a virtual tour.

Hopefully that helps you out a bit.

Thanks everyone, for your suggestions. I did go to 'washingtondchotels.com' - great site! But the rates were still a little higher than I was hoping to pay, or sold out on my dates (Best Western NH was $129-$139). And Rockville/Gaithersburg are a little far out. So ... I did what I usually do, and just decided to give priceline.com a go. Figuring if I got a really cheap rate, I could forego the kitchen and get take-out. And I got the Hyatt Regency in Bethesda, for $70/night! It looks great on the website.
Thanks again, though, for all your tips!

Sarah

I was just about to warn you that Rockville/Gaithersburg were way too far out, but I see I didn't need to.

Question: did you look in Northern Virginia at all? I'm curious because even though I live in the area, I may need some temporary housing after selling my house, and would like somewhere with a kitchen. Did you check out anything in Arlington?
