Help Please: Input re # nights Maui (plus Hana) & Kauai?
I'm planning a special anniversary trip for next May for 11 nights in Hawaii broken down between the Four Seasons and Hotel Hana on Maui, and Princeville on Kauai. Can anyone recommend the best way to divide this time? I was thinking:
Four Seasons 5 nights
Hotel Hana 2 nights
Princeville 4 nights
Will we regret not spending more time on Kauai (knowing that we'd have to give up time on Maui)? What about skipping staying in Hana and just split between Four Seasons and Princeville; are we moving around too much? Another option is just to stay one night in Hana.
Thanks for any ideas and help ...

Looks like a well thought out plan. I wouldn't miss Hana, which I think is magical, for anything. Even more isolated than Princeville. The second day there (Hana) gives you time to explore, far more rewarding than the whirlwind tour of the day trippers. If I was inclined to change anything, I might subtract a day from Wailea-our favorite populated place on Maui, and add it to Kauai. You could get a good introduction to the rest of Maui in 4 days. Keep in mind that travel time from Hana to Kahului airport will be 2-21/2 hours. Keep in mind also that May is the end of "winter" in Hawaii. Could experience some rough water on north side of Kauai, if that's important.

Thanks for the input. I was wondering if we could fly from Hana airport to Kauai. I checked with Pacific Wings and they no longer fly from Hana to Kauai. They mentioned that Aloha Airlines had a smaller division, Island Air, that had a terminal at Hana ... but I've not had any success getting through to a live person at Aloha to inquire about this (put on hold for long, long time) and their website doesn't mention it. Otherwise, I guess we'll plan on an early drive from Hana to the main airport on Maui.

Don't change a thing! The number of days in each place and the accomodations you have chosen cannot be improved upon IMO. I do hope you can work out the flight from Hana to Kauai but if not, driving in that direction in the morning won't be bad at all. No worries...

I would add another day to Kauai and I would stay at the Hyatt. I'm not crazy about the Princeville Hotel, but I love the North Shore. You will absolutely love Hana and Hotel Hana Maui is sublime. Stay two nights. If you can afford it, stay in a Sea Ranch cottage with a spa on the deck I'm jealous!

Careful Kal, family and friends may be lurking in the corners of this thread...for me there is never enough time, check for 4th or 5th night free deals and plan from there. And I never cared to stay at the Hyatt, love Princeville, although I've graduated from 5 star to feeling like home places. Still can't figure out why people bother with Hanalei....!

What about Gloria's Spouting Horn B&B? Looks great and has gotten rave reviews, but ... not much beach at all (although one is within 5 min?) and no A/C ... will this be an issue in May? Should I be worried about the weather in May if we stay at Princeville on northshore?

Cher -
I believe the weather on the north shore in May should be fine. The occasional shower...
You will find as many people who recommend the Hyatt as people who recommend Princeville. I chose the Hyatt because I have a small child who will love the fancy pool complex. If my husband and I were going alone, I would choose to stay on the lush north shore. They are both fabulous resorts and that's why you'll hear both recommended. Stick by your guns...
