It's been a little while since I have posted regarding my rental issues, but good news! We have booked another rental on the south shore of Kauai from a rental agency. It was one of the original properties that we were considering, and maybe we just should have booked it from the beginning to save ourself some trouble.

Ashley, if you still are looking for places and need some tips from someone who just did a (really in-depth!) search, just let me know. I can pass along all the info. How large of a rental are you looking for? Any particular location?

I would love any suggestions! The Hale Aloha Kauai house...which rental company did you go through??? They will be calling me back on Tuesday. Another house I was considering was Anini Beach House but the owner didn't seem overly thrilled to have children in his house (10 and 7).

Here are my criteria:
Close to water (want to hear waves crashing on the shore!), beautiful or at least charming house, preferably 3 bedrooms but can manage with 2, prefer the beautiful north shore area, don't want to be close to any camping areas, want great views, on a beach if possible, jacuzzi is an added perk but not mandatory, price up to 500 but it has to be well worth that price!

Originally I had two houses booked, one charming older house on a beach and the other was a newer house on a bluff with a jacuzzi. That kinda covered all grounds but I know I have to rethink all that because the beach house is no longer available. Thanks!

Hey Ashley:

Let me know an address that I can email you at -- I made an Excel spreadsheet with all of the information about the houses that I contacted. Some on the north shore, some on the south shore, but lots that you may be interested in. If you would like me to pass it along, just let me know! (Or if anyone else would like it, as well!)

hi there,

sorry to hear about your situation. we've put good faith in the place we're renting on the north shore, and hope there is no scramble. i would suggest checking out www.vrbo.com. iknowiknow, yes, it stands for "Vacation Rentals by Owners," the crux of this issue..... but it does have a TON of resources, including rental agencies who rent properties for the owners. funny, the website can also be called "vacation rentals by agencies for owners," there's enough of them. but a great resource, nonetheless. this is how we got our place.

also, there is :

http://www.kauai-hawaii.com/director...tegory.php?260

and

http://www.kauai-hawaii.com/director...tegory.php?905

i think that these three sites wil provide the info relevant to your needs and predicament. good luck!! (don't sweat it, you'll definitely find something good...)

Hi Ashley:

I will email you the spreadsheet on Tuesday -- it's on my work computer. Good luck on your search in the meantime!

I have been disappointed twice in renting from VBRO. First time Lake Tahoe where things needed to be fixed in the condo! The most recent was in Kauai. The condo was not what we expected for the price we paid. It wasn't very clean (pizza crust behind TV, trash not emptied, soap scum build up in bathroom, dirty tables, etc), the window sill in the bedroom was actually falling disolving, and although it had an air conditioner in the bedroom (one reason we rented it), it put out so much hot air into the lanai, you couldn't sit out there and you couldn't leave your windows open in the livng room at night because all the hot air poured into it! We contacted owner and he disputed what we said was wrong because no one had ever complained before and will not give us back our money. we moved out and found another place, cheaper and run by a management company. Never again VBRO

Ashley, we stayed at Poipu Shores. After leaving the unit that was unacceptable, we were fortunate enough to find one in the same building up 2 floors and cheaper. It was a shame about the first one because it was ground floor and open your patio door and you are practically at the wter's edge, and it had a lot of upgrades, but it left a "bittter taste" in our mouth when we looked around and kept finding things that were wrong. The unit we moved to was very nice.

Ashley24,

How was your stay at Keoniana Kai in Princeville. I just booked it for my November honeymoon through Remax, and am curious to hear some feedback.
