The Poconos would be the equivalent of 'wedding camp'. Eating in a 'mess hall', no privacy, it sucks..

Thanks to all of you who had positive resonses to this question. I was discouraged after the first few responses. By the way, the groom actually works for us and we love him, too. I went and talked with both of them - together- last night and offered to bow out gracefully and just "fund" their trip. They are excited about the "surprise" element of the whole thing.......the Today Show does it all the time and that's how they're looking at it. They started with 10 choices, they've narrowed it to 5 places that they've dreamed of going, and will "draw from a hat" to get the final destination. What they do when they get there is up to them. They'll know in plenty of time to look at books, magazines, etc. and get some ideas. All I wanted to know was some suggestions of "out of the ordinary places to go". They are 21 years old, never been anywhere, and are just glad to be able to go out of our state. Selfishness was the last thing on my mind. I apologize to those of you who took me the wrong way. Thanks for the advice on Hawaii. I would have thought Oahu would have been better. Maui sounds great.

Jill,
You have done the right thing by going to both of them and offering to just Fund their HM. They will have lots of love and respect for you in the future. I'm glad you read all the posts to get a different perspective. I'm sure you and the couple feel very good about this now. You are very generous.

I'm not trying to be rude in any way but the two 21 year olds are asking you to choose their honeymoon destination because they are not mature enough to make their own decisions. You still haven't mentioned the budget but depending on which coast you're from the Caribbean or Hawaii will be nicest. IMO Kauai is the most romantic of the islands.

I've always thought Ireland would be really romantic! Oh wait, this is the US travel talk. But I still like the idea staying in an Irish castle! For all the people who asked how can you be serious? Re-read the original post. I sure sounds to me like Jill offered this to the wedding couple and they are interested. Quit being so cynical. There are actually people who have close and wonderful friends to give them such an awesome gift!!!

I don't care how long you have known the girl Jill, planning her honeymoon is tacky, tacky, tacky. Why not just give them a check and point them in the direction of a good travel agent? That makes more sense than you sticking your nose in.

Just give them cash. They will like you more. Trust me. Took my honeymoon in Florida. Got divorced. Florida a bad choice for honeymoon.
