Hey, Bill, I realize I never listed Jerry Santos/Olomana. LOVE his stuff when I'm chillin. My friends & I are also really into Makana for slack key. Sonny Chillingworth was his mentor so that makes him extra anointed!

Thanks Mels!

...and jamal...why are asking? Do you want my coveted spot on our board of directors as K9 registrar? Once a K9, always a K9!

Don't know that one, but I love Woody's Happy Feet Tropical Tango.

Look for Maui's Willy K for local music. Not so much Hawaiian style, but killer tunes by one of the best musicians in Hawaii. He just recently recorded with Carlos Santana.

I always do the reggae/Hawaiin music combo.
Harry Kalapana mix CD, Jimmy Cliff greatest hits
and IZ greatest hits. Also, the soundtrack to The Harder They Come (more reggae) is great for rolling on the isle!

National Geographic released a very, very good CD -- great music, great artists -- that's high on my "recommend" list. Especially good for folks who are new to Hawaiian music.

CD is entitled "Destination Hawai`i" -- filled with some of the most beloved traditional Hawaiian mele. I just googled for it, and came up blank. Please pardon this blatant plug:

Thanks auntie. The track by Ledward Kaapana is a favorite. He sang it when we saw him perform earlier this year. He's amazing.

You know, I really like the CDs that Aunty mentions because they give you a good sampling of the various artists. I've bought a few CDs from mele.com!

Hot newer groups include Manoa DNA, and Kawao. We hired Natalie Kamau'u last New Year's Eve and she was wonderful! Kapena also released a new CD on 2/14. I don't know if it's in stores yet (I found out that brick-and-mortar stores go through a crazy approval process) but you can surely find it online.

Hi Mels,
I like the compilations too. They are great on the aforementioned IPOD, which I still have and use daily I might add.

Aunty- that is really a great selection on the Nat Geographic CD. I'd buy it except I have most of those individual albums!
