This March, we happened upon Merv Oana, performing in Lahaina (Maui) when we visited in March. He seemed a real cut above the typical solo performer-with-drum-machine you find playing in bars. So we bought his CD, Everyday Island Life (from 1997). We love it; mostly original songs (not on par with the Cazimero Brothers or others, but a nice change of pace).

Many mahalos Bill! My lil sis is joining us and well as my own "auntiem", mom's sis. We all connect wonderfully, so I'm hoping for "happy trails".
I'll let you know... until then... aaaaahhhhhlllohhhhhhhaaaaaaa.

My fingers hurt from practicing the ukulele and i'm still terrible! Have been listening to alot of Gabby Pahinui in the car..and as usual some old iz (with big brother skippy, oh yeh, da best). Those guys are always in the rotation on my ipod! Bill, I bet you'd love these albums. I think they are "Na Mele Henoheno" collection or something, i bet auntie maria knows and then knows some more! Also that Live at Hank's recording is outta sight! We have to order another copy as we kindly left our original one (by mistake) in the rental car. alOhA.

I see I don't need to mention mele.com...
Among my favorites are Keola and Kapono Beamer. I also like Gabby Pahinui.
Oh, my. I just noticed that this is an old thread. Nevertheless, interesting discussion, and I just added radio station kkrc to my streaming collection and am listening as I type!
Bill, are you going to Hawaii again this year? 8-)

nevermind,
Not going this year. We went to St. John- USVI instead for our "go beach" vacation this year a few weeks ago. Loved it! Maui in February and maybe Kaua'i again next summer. Going to St. John has wet my appetite for seeing other tropical places, so I'm looking at alterantives for the summer months. Any ideas?
