check out Books of Wonder 18 W. 18th Street - they usually have a big deal party at midnight - last time we went w/ then 10 year old son and two friends - there many kids but even more 20 something adults, dressed up in Potter character costumes . . . quite odd really.

The cover illustrator was there that night, signing copies and reading to the kids . . . most who just wanted to go home and sleep.
The Union Square Barnes and Noble will also probably have afew events.

Funny...I had thought about posting how we're going to be in southern Maine when it is released, where to buy it, etc. (Amazingly, it does not appear that every town in southern Maine has its own Walmart.) Of course, if we buy our son the book during vacation, we will lose him until he finishes the book, so I'm hoping that he'll forget about it until our return.

FORGET that book 7 is coming out, ohhhhhhhhhh I don't think so. The hype to both the book and movie coming out are going to get huge, everywhere. In the last 2 days I have seen the trailer twice, and 3 Harry Potter related news stories.
There are parties at most book stores in the city. I'll be at the Barnes and Noble book store long before midnithg, on Broadway in the low 80's.

I have no specific details but why not look into which book store plans on staying open at midnight for the official release?
I'd think one of the large Barnes and Noble stores in Midtown or the UWS will have an "event" to attract media attention. (Toys R Us did this with the last Xbox release.)

Hoops - you picked the best possible place to be - Scholastic (Harry Potter publisher) has a few things planned at their store in Manhattan:
