You can leave your camera out. If you want to get a group picture though I would be selective about who I handed the camera to. Last summer a group was coming out of the federal reserve. A girl handed me her very expensive camera and then walked across the street while I took the picture. When I gave the camera back I said "you really don't want to hand this to too many strangers. Choose carefully in that situation!
