Help!! Can't decide on which island.

My husband and I have booked a trip to Maui in June staying at the Grand Wailea. I thought everything was set and then people starting talking to me about the Big Island. When I looked into it I thought it looked very nice. I was looking at the Mauna Kea Beach Resort or the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Kohala coast. What is everyone's opinion on this island and these resorts? Should I change islands or stay with Maui? We really only want to go to one place and want it to be perfect. Thanks in advance.

They're all too crowded with suckers who have fallen for all the phoney messages posted on this forum. Try suicide.

STICK WITH MAUI--YOU WON'T BE SORRY--WE'VE BEEN THERE TWICE AND ARE GOING BACK NEXT YEAR!! However we stay at a nice quiet B&B in Lahaina--too many kids at the Grand Wailea. Have fun

Your will love Maui...dont 2nd guess yourself. I myself like the Kaanapali side of the island...but we stayed at the Renissance Wailea last year and enjoyed that too. Just better better restaurants in Kaanapali.

Stick with Maui. We stayed in the Kaanapali area. Went in Feb - the whale watching was out of this world. Also don't miss the sunrise on Haleakala. Awesome! This was our favorite island of the four we visited and we stayed a week.

JJJ, Spoken like the true Fla. travel agent you are.

Notice all of the Florida trolls being posted recently by jealous, starving Florida TAs?

I could see why. Florida vs Hawaii. Let's see. Where would about 90% of the poplulation rather go if they could?

The other 10% probably are still trying to figure out the Florida state ballot?

I've been to both Islands, first Maui and then the Big Island. Both are fun depending on what you like to do. We stayed in Kehei when in Maui because we wanted to be away from the crowds. Haleakala is awesome for the sunrise and the road to Hana is great. Snorkling at Molikini is fun, we went with the Lani Kai. Go to Maui and then when you get a chance to go back go to one of the other islands. We are heading to Kauai this year!

Stick with Maui and the Grand Wailea. I was just there two weeks ago and the Grand Wailea was very beautiful. True there are many kids-mine were two of them-but there is a separate pool area for adults only and many places on the property to relax. We have yet to visit the big Island. Thought Maui was nice but still prefer Kauai.

Sheila, I think it depends on what "perfect" is for you. I've stayed on both Maui (Kaanapali coast) and at the Mauna Kea. I liked them both but for different reasons. Maui has more shopping, convenient restaurants, tourists, services, congestion. It's beautiful. The big island is also beautiful, but in a very different way. Lots more variation in vegetation (including a lot of black rocks with straw/pink grass tufts sprouting from them), pretty beaches (but not as long as Kaanapali's beach), variation in weather, the coolest park (Volcanoes National) where you can hike and see sunsets/sunrises without the long drive up the mountain and the cold weather when you get there. If I were to go back, I'd definitely do Hawaii because it's less commercial, easier to hike, golf, etc. The Hilton Village has many more kids/people than the Mauna Kea and a lot less beach. The Mauna Kea is at least 30-45 minutes further norther than the Hilton and in a quieter area. The manta rays feeding after dark is really spectacular. You can go over to Waimea for dinner - it's near the farming/ranching center of Hawaii. Hope this helps you & have a wonderful time no matter what you choose. Regards, Anne
