S.F. - One night for dinner

We are spending one day and evening in San Francisco. Would like suggestions for dinner in some place that is new and trendy.
Fun, excellent food and wine list - not asking for too much am I? Also no Jacket or Tie requirements - won't have them along.
This will be for Monday, Jan 24, 00.
Thanks

I wouldn't consider it new, and not sure about trendy, but I had the best Italian meal of my life at a little restaurant in North Beach called Caffe Sport--can't remember the street, but it certainly was a meal to remember.

For something trendy--if you love garlic (and you gotta LOVE it for this place), The Stinking Rose in North Beach is a fun place to go. But, be warned, they put loads of garlic in every entree, salad, soup, and even dessert. If your stomach can't take garlic, this is not the place for you! Definitely an experience...

Farallon is everyone's favorite right now, but check to see if they have a jacket requirement. My husband wore one but don't know if it's required. Less formal and very good is Rose Pistola's, which is Ligurian and I'm sure has no dress code. Check out SFgate.com for more reviews. Enjoy, there are lots to choose from.

Sorry, pc, I've got to disrecommend Cafe Sport. Crowded, with bad service and marginal food. I think Buca di Beppo has the same concept executed much better, and it's a chain out of Milwaukee or someplace, for goodness sake.

Thanks for the info. Has anyone eaten at Fifth Floor? Recommended by Bon Appetit Magazine (whatever that means)...
