Helmsley Park Lane/NYC

Does anyone have any feedback regarding the Helmsley Park Lane on Central Park South? We haved booked a room for one night - Saturday, May 17th. The price was so ABSOLUTELY cheap we couldn't refuse. Now we are wondering WHY this hotel would be so reasonable. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Karen

It's just fine. The ammenities are there, the rooms are spacious (by comparison), and the location is fabulous. The reaon the rates are so low is probably due to the fact that the rooms (drapes, carpeting, etc.) haven't been "refreshed" in several years. But, you won't mind, as housekeeping at all the Helmsley's is positively meticulous. For one night only, and for that location, and for whatever rate, you'll be positively thrilled.

Thanks for responding to my query. We flying into LGA Saturday afternoon, having dinner in Queens with my husband's aunt Saturday night and sailing to Bermuda Sunday. Whew!!! I'm only sorry that we don't have more time in the City.
I guess it really doesn't matter about the room - it is only one night.
Thanks again for the input.
Regards,

It's also fairly easy to get to the dock area from there. After your dinner, you might take a carriage ride through central park for a romantic evening and then a drink at Tavern on the Green. Spark some romance before your trip.

Have a great time.

Unless you are going to have a drink in one of Tavern's dining rooms, skip the place. The bar has no windows and really no redeeming qualities.

For a romantic place to have a drink, The Rainbow Room can't be beat. The view of the city at night is stunning to say the least.
