We are supposed to leave friday, 7/6 for 3 days in Sedona, one night GC, one night Page, and one night Phoenix for a conference. My husband just realized it will be extremely hot on this vacation, and he is having second thoughts about it, and wants to come up with something else! Is the heat unbearable? We were planning on sightseeing, pink jeep tour, etc, no major hiking. I just don't know what else to do at this late date to get out of the heat. We live at the beach, so anything is hot compared to here.
Any thoughts?

Sedona is usually cooler than Phoenix.

As it is often said, it IS a dry heat. Hot, but not as bad as hot and humid.

The dryness makes high temps much more bearable than they sound. 100 in Florida would be deadly, but in Arizona, it's just hot, and never sticky. Drink lots of water, all the time, even if you're not thirsty.

Phoenix will be the worst part of the trip, since it's at the lowest elevation, but you'll only be there for a day, so spend it indoors or by the pool and you'll be fine. I wouldn't cancel the trip if I were you, I think you'll still enjoy it.

As others have said---it's hot ,but at 100 F and dry more comfortable than 80 and humid in other areas.Spend time in the pool and air conditioned shops and restaurants.Drink plenty of water.

You will have a great time. I have traveled to that area , and as a native of the Northeastfound it comfortable

This week, Phoenix is supposed to hit 117F, then cooling the next week when you will be there. By cooling, I mean in the 106F to 108F range. For one day, I would still make the trip.

I've visited the area several times and usually in July. It's hot - but gorgeous. Enjoy!

Don't you live in Orange County, California? Well just about any place this time of year will be hotter than the beach in CA with a few exceptions. I am sure you must have realized that in July it would be hot in Arizona. Sedona will be cooler probably in the 80s and 90s but does cool down at night like here in So. Californa. The Grand Canyon will be even cooler. Just do things in the morning and enjoy the pool in the afternoons. As others have said, Phoenix will be hot but you can stay indoors or at the pool. What are you doing in Page? There is not alot to do there where you aren't outside so maybe just stay an extra day at the GC or in Sedona.

Just remember to drink plenty of water and avoid the mid-day heat. Not much difference than here in California especially with the heat they are predicting for this week. Have a fun time.

Yes, I live in Laguna Beach, so we are spoiled with the cool weather here. I told my family all along it would be hot on the Arizona vacation, but they were ok with it. Now my husband is having second and third thoughts about it. We are going up to Page for the Antelope Canyon, everyone's pics of this look so grand to see. I don't think there is enough in the Grand Canyon for 2 days there - we won't be doing hiking.

Don't know how old your kids are but one thing they might enjoy in Sedona is Oak Creek Canyon and Slide Rock. Its very crowded on the weekended but not as bad during the week. You slide down Oak Creek on your butt. The water is very cool. You need to make sure you wear a pair of shorts over your bathing suit.

You might consider going on the Colorad Float trip out of Page, AZ since you will be up that way. Do the morning trip because it will be cooler. http://www.utahtea.lithium.com/pages...2003/float.htm

Thanks for the advise, we decided to go for it - and we are here in Sedona now. Wow, did we luck out today on arrival. All overcast the entire afternoon, with a nice breeze. Tomorrow the Pink Jeep tour!
