Hearst castle

We are going to California this July and would like to visit Hearst Castle. Can anyone recommend the best tour as there is such a wide choice.

The Grand Room Tour is the best introduction to the "castle." It comes with a ticket to a movie about the place.

There is an Evening tour that is great. They offer it in the spring and fall, and I assume summer too. It's a beautiful time of day to be at the castle and they have tour guides enacting several "evening" parlour games, etc. It's an amazing castle - I'm sure any tour you do you will enjoy!

We were there last month and took two tours, The Grand Rooms Tour and The Upstairs Tour. Both were wonderful, but we thought the Upstairs one was more informative and more interesting, while the Grand Rooms was a very good overview. Maybe think about doing two tours?

For a first visit the Grand rooms tour is the best introduction . . . but really - taking two tours is the best option.

I agree, as always, with JanisJ. If you can only do one, do the Grand Rooms. Two are better though.

I took my teen age grandkids 2 years ago and we booked 3 tours on line, in advance. All very easy. I think we may have even gotten a discount that way. Took the bus up once and then everything followed with a short break between tours.

Kleroux - that is good to know, regarding not having to take the bus back down the hill. Thank you!
