Hawaiian Airline Couponholders beware!

We just visited three islands and used the Hawaiian Airlines coupons for interisland flights...I estimated about 100 in discounting based on the trips...We paid dearly for this savings...Hawaiian Airlines flags all couponholders for security checks...we travelled with an infant, so this really sucked! Every flight, our bags were opened, we all spread eagle and got really tired of the routine. Next time, I'll just forgive the savings and hope to receive less criminal treatment...not opposed to security at airports, but any would be criminals with 1/2 a brain will quickly figure out the routine...

My husband and I use coupons all the ime for interisland flights on Hawaiian...Have never been searched yet. Maybe you got flagged for some other reason, or were just unlucky...

I used a Hawaiian Airlines coupon just this morning (HNL-OGG) and didn't get searched at all. I don't think it's far to say that Hawaiian flags ALL couponholders because that's just not true, obviously.

Was something else bellis. Do you look safardic (sp)? I have to tell you that I have used them for 10 years every year and have never ever been searched. HNL airport is in the top ten successful security airports in the country though. Four military bases on the island you understand.

Prior to our trip, there were some comments on this site re: coupon use being related to security searches...thought my experience justified the comments we read prior to this trip...glad this is clearly NOT the case and we can continue using coupons/saving money on these flights...poor luck I guess. As for our looks...pretty typical waspy family travelling with 3.5 month old...hardly suspect? Maybe I should have played the lottery that week...

Yes...Kauai is hot in July... No complaints here..just stating facts...thought some might not want to sweat through their vacations...As I said, living without AC there can be uncomfortable during the day, but we found it to be tolerable at night...the beauty of Kauai definitely makes up for it...It is an island surrounded by water...you're never too far from a refreshing swim

I can't think of any logical reason why security would target coupon holders !!

I remember seeing the coupon comments...think it might have been early June? I travel all the time to the islands and use coupons..this must be coincidental.

The spread eagle thing were you talking about your legs or your bags. If this was your legs I am concerned if it took place in a public place. If it was your bags that happens periodically to me whenever I am in high security airports. It happen to my 75 year old mother in London, 2000. I don't even count when I have to open luggage post 911 kind of what we all have to do. I count myself lucky when it does not happen but expect it.

I also read that Honolulu airport has the one of the top ten security systems in the country. I do think you can expect that on an island with 4 military basis.

Just tell us if this was a personal frisk or a spread eagle bag check. So sorry for you if it was physical.
