Hawaii or Maui on a budget? Help!

I'm hoping to take my first trip to Hawaii or Maui (or the cheapest island for that matter). I haven't checked travel agents yet
because I wanted to save myself some questions. Is it possible to to visit any of the Hawaiian islands for approx. $600-750 a person? I would be departing from Los Angeles and taking my vacation in June or July.

Hi Joe, I assume you are not including airfare in your price. If so yeas I think it is possible to spend a week for $1500 a couple. You might think about a moderate or lower priced condo, which will ot be on the beach. Check with Aston they have several choices on each island. this way you can buy some groceries and eat many of your meals in your own kitchen which will save considerably on food costs. Also, there are plenty of inexpensive activities to do including hiking, snorkeling,(as long as you don't take a charter), and sightseeing. The big variable will be the airfare and car. But asuming the airfare is separte You might look like this.

7 nights condo @125 $875
Compact car for week $175 (I'm guessing)
Food and Entertainment $450

Now $450 for food and entertainment works out to 65 dollars a day which, if you buy groceries for most breakfasts and lunches, should leave you enogh to do some activities and eat out a few times. Good luck!
will most liely end up in a moderate to lowr pricm or maybe

Leaving from LAX you should be able to get some really good deals on airfare. One thing to look into if you are cost conscious is the charter companies (Apple Tours, Sun Tours, etc.) do allow you to buy airfare only from them and it is usually cheaper than your commercial airlines. I recommend the entertainment book also, you can save on car rentals and it also has a coupon for continental airlines that may offer you a cheaper fare. We stayed at the Papakea Resort at the end of Kaanapali for $135.00 per night for a 2 bedroom/2 bath, but it sounds like you could use something smaller, they have 1 bedrooms and studios. The grounds and rooms were perfect, we could not have asked for a better place. You can email me if you want more info. We had 8 people and I had to do all the planning and they were ALL very budget conscious, so I did some good planning!

Joe,

Two things- one, check out the Outrigger Hotel chain for good hotels at a reasonable price, next- Maui is the most expensive of the islands, you may want to stay in Honolulu. See ya.

A budget trip would be best in the off season. We went in early December and rented condos.

Good deals are out there, just shop around.I'm going to Maui in Sept. for 14 nights at Maui Marriot ,includes car for 14 days and air from the east coast with a cost of $2900 for TWO.That's about $100 per day a person + meals .A great deal I think.Check with Apple Vacations, good luck.
