Hawaii: Oahu, then Maui or Kauai?

My husband and I will be on Oahu in mid November on business. We have 3 days to visit another island. Maui or Kuaui? My husband will be looking for major beach time.

If this is really for beach time (and not "seeing" the other island), why not just stay on Oahu? The beaches at Kailua/Lanikai (east of Waikiki) and the north shore beaches are fantastic.

I agree. For such a short trip, I'd also stick with Oahu. Maybe split the time between Waikiki and the North Shore.

How long will you be on Oahu for the business part of the trip?

If 5 days or more, you can see much of Oahu in your off time.

Either Maui or Kauai would be good for 3 days.

I like Maui better than Kauai so would probably spend the 3 days on Kauai & save Maui for a longer trip.

We'll be there for 4 days and 5 nights. We'll have time in the late afternoon and evening to enjoy Waikiki. Just thought we should take the opportunity to see another island.

4 days and 5 nights..no way going to another island.
If you had a full week, I would suggest maybe a 2 day in Maui.

There's no right or wrong answer to this question. For me it wouldn't be worth the cost, time and hassle or going to the airport, etc. to change islands just for a few days, especially because I haven't come anywhere close to exploring all of Oahu (outside Waikiki).

Now if you had a week or two more, either Kauai or Maui are of course wonderful islands to see.

Waikiki is actually a very small part of Oahu. The other parts of the island (north shore, Kailua) will seem like a world away.
