Have anyone stayed at the Hyatt Regency, Maui?

Tell me what you thought. How were the rooms and beach? What about service? This will be our first trip.

I just got back from Maui june 9th.I could not decide between the Sheraton or the Hyatt. I ended up staying at the Sheraton because I got 50 percent off a 9 night stay using united airlines hotel certificates. I had a room in the hale nalu building right on the beach with two balconies. Now back to the Hyatt I went to see the Hyatt and I was very Impressed.I spent two hours walking around the very lushly landscaped grounds. It is very large property and the pools are very nice with a rope bridge accross one and also a lava tube slide. There is also a cave bar that has waterfalls coming down on two sides.I saw the swan court resturaunt and it was very nice.now as far as the beach is concerned it was rather narrow. The waves on that section of beach get very large. If a wide beach is important you can always walk a short distance down the beach to find a better section. The beach at the sheraton is probably the nicest in that area. I also got to see one of the ocean front rooms.I met a couple on the elevator who let us see their room. It was a nice room and pretty much what I expected from the pictures I saw on the Hyatt Web site http://maui.hyatt.com/
I found the balconies to be rather small and narrow compared to the ones at the sheraton. Although the view of Lanai was nice from the Ocean front Hyatt room.I can't speak about the service although the couple we met said they liked the hotel. I would say you would probably like the Hyatt. one observation I had was that the Hyatt is a busier resort than the sheraton. Although being so large you could easily find a quiet spot somewhere.I think I would have been very happy at the Hyatt although the Sheraton was so peaceful it felt like you had the place to yourself. It is not as lush as the Hyatt but had a more relaxed atmosphere.
Any more questions about places to see let me know.

Hi Melanie, we have stayed at the Hyatt six times in the last seven years and we consider ourselves somewhat as Hyatt experts as we stay over 50 nights a year in Hyatts. The Maui location is great. A typical hyatt resort with all the amenities one would expect from a first class hotel. I'll start inside, the lobby is enormous and kids and adults alike love stopping and watching the family of penguins frolicking around or listening to the parrots in the open air lobby. The grounds are enormous with flamingos, swans, and peacocks roaming freely. You'll find plenty of hamocks to curl up in late at night, listening to the waves and watching the stars.

The rooms are fine-nothing special, you'll have a bed (or two) a love seat chair, table, fridge, bath amenities and coffee maker. Get an oceanview in the main tower, the walk is shorter and the views are great.

The pool is enormous, has the waterfall bar and generally is not very crowded as there are plenty of chairs all over. The waitress service at the pool is excellent you will never have trouble finding a waitress.

The restaurants are great as well-the swan court is generally acknowledged as one of the most romantic on Maui. Cascades is fine too and has a terrific sushi chef. We are not huge Italian lovers so can't comment on Spats but others have said it is good but overpriced. The beach is fine but as mentioned above to get a wider beach you'll have to walk a couple hundred yards. Let me know if you have any more questions- we just returned and are always happy to help.

We stayed at the Hyatt three years ago. Its a nice hotel especially if you have children. My 11 year old daughter loved the pool with its water falls and grottos. The jacuzzi is in a little enclosed room off the health spa. Putting the jacuzzi in a steamy and somewhat unwholesome room seems more appropriate for a hotel on the Oregon coast. Maybe it was unusual but on more days than not, we were there for two weeks, they posted a flag on the beach that the water was unsafe for swimming.
The ambiance in the main outdoor dining room is great. I thought the food was ok but quite expensive as you would expect. I thought the Italian restaurant was pretty bad. They had a daily buffet in their outdoor casual restaurant that ranged from ok to terrible.
The Regency Club is outside on one of the hotels outdoor corridors. The afternoon snacks were very good. The liquor as in all Regency Clubs outside the continental US in complementary and high class.
All in all, if you have young children, the Hyatt is a good place. If not the Grand Wailea, as an example, is a lot more plush and lot quiter.

Hi Melanie -

Just thought I'd chime in. I haven't stayed at that one but the one in Hong Kong is excellent.

Very helpful staff, very neat and clean rooms. We had a queen bed, couch, coffee table, and a desk and chair. I'm sure all their properties are held to a similar level.

Have fun.

I have stayed at both the Marriott and the Hyatt on Maui. I loved the Hyatt. The pool is fabulous! The service was great! I actually ended up with food poisening (not from the hyatt) while I was there. The Hyatt is the only hotel with a doctor and the employees were great in helping me out! They even called me each day to see how I was feeling!
Have fun!

Hi Fern,

What a horrible way to spend your trip.Out of great concern for my VERY sensitive stomach, where did you get the food poisioning? I'm leaving for Maui in a week and would like to steer clear of such a situation.

Thanks!
