Any haunted hotels in the French Quarter?

I just got back from New Orleans and while I was there I took the Haunted History tour. There were two hotels discussed on that tour that are supposed to be haunted. The Place d'Arms on St. Ann Street, and Hotel Provincial on Chartres. (I'm sure there are many more places that are haunted in the Quarter, but we just had time for these two).

Our tour guide said anything in or around room 223 in Place d'Arms has had things happen. Like unexplained noices. Story goes that it used to be a school and it burned down. Several children were killed.

The Hotel Provincial used to be a Civil War hospital (or at least that's where they took the injured). Guests have reported waking up in the night and seeing men operating on soldiers. Or pulling back their covers at night only to find blood soaked sheets. When they find the management and bring them to the room, the sheets are just fine.

Bourbon Orleans is suppose to be a haunted hotel. They featured it on Haunted History on the Discovery channel

There are many haunted hotels in New Orleans. Go to amazon.com and search for haunted N.O. there are several books that give specific room numbers.

Just returned from N.O. in July. Took the New Orleans Ghost Tour. DON'T waste your money. You will spend most of your time sitting in a seedy bar being pressured to buy made-up concoctions (we tried the embalming fluid)waiting for the tour to begin, then return half-way through for a drink/potty break (more waiting). Then the tour is over. You will only go to 4-5 sites. Try Gray Line Ghost Tour or Haunted History Tour for ghost stories.

I love to watch those ghost stories on the Travel channel,however, don't you think it is a bumch of "hype." If they advertise a hotel, which is supposedly haunted, naturally people will want to go there out of curiosity. I think it is all propaganda. Just my opinion. Obviously, I have never seen one.

Ive seen a ghost and more than one. I have stayed at the Lafitte Guesthouse and we stayed in the "lofthouse" room. I heard someone coming up the stairs to the loft where we slept. I have also seen ghost at my fathers house on numerous occasions. Maybe you just have to have a gift to feel when they're there?

To author goodgrief. If you have never seen a ghost how do you no wether or not they exist? To tell someone that they need help because of something they claim to have experieced is a shallow and closed minded way to live life. I have experienced some unusual things in the French Quarter myself and would not rule out ghost. I have lived here for 3 decades....A calif. friend turned me on to this forum...

I am not making fun of the idea at all. As I stated I do love to watch those shows which also explore haunted lighthouses. I suppose it you say you saw one, then perhaps you did. I have never been to NO so of course, I cannot say. I just have to wonder if it isn't more for publicity purposes. Of course, the lighthouses are a different story. There is not any financial gain to be had on those stories for no one can stay or spend money to visit them. There are also many homes in the South that claim to be haunted or have ghosts. They are not hotels either.

Hubby and I stayed at Hotel Provincial
a year ago and will never stay there again. Guess what, pulled back the covers and blood on the pillowcase!
Ugh. Gives me shivers just thinking about it now, and the wierd part is that we did not even know about the blood in the sheets story until a few nights later when we went on the Haunted History Tour at nighttime and they stopped right in front of our hotel
and then proceeded to tellthe civil war soldier story, and all I could think about was how we also found blood in our bed too. Very strange.

Ghosthunter, I had that same experience. I stayed in the loft house on the top floor and my friend was asleep on the bottom. But I hear that room 21 is the haunted room there.

I also hear that Plac D'Arms is Haunted by children who like to play with Electronics like car alarms and nintendo games. I haven't stayed there myself but I plan on it on my next trip.

To Good Grief, why does s/he need help? It seems as if she is having a wonderful ghost hunting experience on her own. Perhaps I am the one who needs help since I cannot seem to find too many active haunts. Maybe my name should be GhostHunter... ^_^()

The Myrtles in St.Francisville is an old plantation. Apparantly it is supposed to be one of the most haunted ones in the US.

Page, thanks for the invite. I would love to go there one day. It seems like a very interesting place to visit.There is a story about a planatation where a slave accidently killed the Masters children and wife. She now stays in the house and supposedly looks after other children that may live there. She saved a lady's toddler from drowning in a pond near by. Interesting story one of my favorite ones.

I'm told by those that know that Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs is most certainly haunted. One example is smelling cigar smoke in the lobby if I'm not mistaken. Not to mention other (other-worldly) inhabitants. Unfortunately, I've been there three times and seriously looked for them (by myself mind you) and never had the pleasure of encountering them. Perhaps they only appear when you're not looking for them or are truly afraid, like my husband...Give it a try if you're in the area. Good luck!

Message to All: On my return from New Orleans I answered some questions about tours that I went on (my opinion, of course). Went on a ghost tour with New Orleans Ghost Tours, paid $18 pp and spent more time sitting in a bar (the Morgue) than on the actual tour. Complained and was told that they would send a ghost book for us to our hotel. Called back several times but still did not get the book.

Allyson: I thought it was you that I talked to many times, especially since you advertise NOGT and the Morgue every chance you get. And NO I do not work for any other tour company.

To everyone else: sorry for this squabble. Makes me mad to see her advertise here, but I will try to keep quiet.
