Has anyone stayed at the Tioga Pass Resort?

I'm looking for a place for a mini family reunion in the Tioga Pass/Lee Vining area. The TPR looks good for all the activities just outside the cabin door. Anyone stayed there?

Hi Jean,

Funny you should ask, I stayed there last July for 1 awful night. I was staying in Lee Vining but was intrigued by Tioga Pass Resort and stopped to see if they had any vacancies.

Seeing the large plastic container in the room labeled "Mouse Proof Tub" should have been a dead giveaway.

I came back to my room after a long day hiking to find the box of tissues shredded all over the room, as the mouse (or mice) had decided to make it their nest.

There were mouse droppings all over the kitchen, which made the idea of cooking and eating in the room sort of gross. I was woken up twice during the night by the little creature(s) scurrying around as well.

I left in the morning. The management (mostly 20-somethings) took it all in stride.

Now I have nothing against mice, and would expect them if I were camping. But at $175 per night it was just not okay. I'm not even sure if it's legal for a hotel to operate with that kind of rodent infestation.

I would recommend staying in Lee Vining. The Best Western there also rents small cottages with kitchens - sort of basic, not luxurious, but they are fine. I'm going back with my family this summer and staying there.

Well, I wasn't sure about what you were looking for in a "resort". I was quite surprised John's post regarding mice, but I would imagine they come down from the mountains behind the cabins. We drive past there frequently. They're very close to the highway, and I can imagine you would hear trucks purring by all night.

You may be interested in something at Mammoth Lakes, or John's suggestion.

Thanks so much for your replies. This family gathering is to be a sort of memorial to my dad who passed away earlier this month. He loved the Lee Vining/Tioga area so much, we thought we'd go there. But sharing an emotional visit with mice and trucks doesn't sound like what we had in mind. I'd also been looking at the B.W. in Lee Vining, so I guess it's settled. Thanks again.
