Hartford, Conn to NYC...How?

Is there a commuter train from Hartford to NYC? A friend is considering a short trip to NYC while visiting Conn. Thanks!

Metro North terminates in New Haven. There is Amtrak. I'm not sure if a bus is quicker and more economical.

Ican't give you any specifics, but a bus is probably the most practical way.

Well you could take Amtrak from Hartford station to Penn Station in NYC for about $75 or $80 round trip during the week. I am not sure, but it might be more on weekends.

I forgot to mention. It might be even a little cheaper to take amtrak to new Haven and then transfer to Metro North for the rest of the trip to Grand Central.

So, if one were to take a bus, would that be Greyhound?

There is Amtrak service but it's expensive and not very frequent. More options if you change trains in New Haven.

Here's a bus schedule
http://bonanzabus.com/schedules/summ..._Torr_Htfd.pdf

A rt fare on the bus (3 hrs each way)appears to be about $37-45 whereas the train rt seems to be around $70. Length of trip depends on whether it's a thru train etc.

Greyhound also has service but Peter Pan has more choices. If you go to the greyhound website they show schedules for both together.
