Amtrak station near I 95/Westchester or CT

I want to take a train from NY, NY to a station not far from I 95 enroute to SE CT.
I am meeting a car coming over Throgs Neck or Whitestone going onto 1-95. I do not want to go as far as Old Saybrook; going North before that point.
Thanks.
Ideas?

Why bother with Amtrak? Just take a Metro North train to New Haven.

Or take the 6 train (subway) to the end of the line--Pelham Bay Park/Westchester Ave--which is right next to exit 8A off 95.

As Mentioned, take Metro North over Amtrak. It is much less expensive. You can meet up with your car at any number of stations in Westchester or Fairfield counties.

Stamford has several exits and is a fairly large town with a fairly large train station.

You're probably better off using one of the smaller stations - less driving around the town and easier to find someone. You could try Greenwich - the first station in CT and a much smaller town and station.

Stamford station is exit seven Northbound on 95 -- but as the previous poster mentioned, it is big and a bit complicated to reach. Greenwich is good -- or go one stop past Stamford to the Noroton Heights (exit 10) station in Darien. (Left at the end of the ramp, onto Noroton Ave, then left onto Heights Road -- follow to end (a few hundred yards) then left on Hollow Tree and immediate left into station to meet trains from Manhattan). Reverse direction and take left off Noroton to continue on 95 No.

directions for Greenwich train station:
Northbound:
From I-95 Northbound Exit 3. At end of ramp, turn left onto Arch Street. Make next right onto Railroad Avenue. Station is on the right.

I agree it's easier to drive there than Stamford. You have to take a local train from Grand Central

You could also go to Westport. I am not clear exactly what you want to do after meeting the car so am not sure which is better. Driving directions to Westport

Northbound:
From I-95 Northbound Exit 17. At end of exit, turn right onto Saugatuck Avenue. Make next left onto Ferry Lane. Follow to end of the street then go under railroad bridge street becomes Railroad Place station is on the left.

the mta website in the last post has schedules, directions to all the stations
