My favorite restaurant last time I stayed on the North Shore was Zello's, which I read went out of business. I'd like to know if there's another restaurant in the same space:

My second favorite restaurant was Bamboo Bamboo, also out of business.
I've seen reviews of a place called Bar Acuda; is that in the old B B space?

Bar Acuda is in the old location of Bamboo Bamboo. We ate at Bar Acuda last time and liked it a lot. Small plates with pretty large prices are the norm here, but the food was delicious and the service was great. It seemed like a very "in" place at the time we were there...a bit pretentious, which is a little out of place in Hanalei. We'd go back.

A place called Kalypso's is in the old Zelos location. We didn't eat there.

A couple of other standbys in Hanalei for us are Postcards, Cafe Polynesia (there's one in Kapa'a too), Village Snack Shop (local style breakfast and lunch plates) and the Hanalei Dolphin fish market.

We also ate at Saffron at Pali Ke Kua in Princeville. We liked it, but not as much as Bar Acuda. Some of the dishes were excellent, some just so-so. Kel'i Kaneal'i sings there some nights. He also sings at Tahiti Nui some nights.

We ate at Neide's for the first time this past trip because Bar Acuda wasn't open yet. Ditto iamq's comment on BA..small plates-pretty large prices.

Had two good meals at Neide's. I had a nice little steak with an egg and some delish black beans. Looked like free WiFi too because a lot of WiFlies were squatting at some tables nursing cups of coffee.

A place called Bouchon's Sushi opened up in the old Sushi and Blues place. Haven't heard any reviews.

I found a site today that has information on Kauai (actually several islands) including restaurants. Nice because the names of the restaurants have a link to their websites, however, I noticed several links are broken like Saffron's. Not all restaurants are listed:

Neides...hmm. Is that the Mexican place in Hanalei Center?
If so, surprised it has survived. That building seems to be high on turnover.

Neide's bills itself as Brazilian. We've eaten there too, but weren't wowed like some are. I'd go back to give it another try.

Where is the Villge Snack Shop? Is it a plate lunch place or bakery or bofem?

Village Snack Shop is in Ching Young Center in Hanalei just down the way from the Polynesia Cafe across from the pizza place. They are open from around 6 to 4 each day. Sort of a dive, just local folks having breakfast and plate lunch. They bake their own pastries including delicious malasadas and yummy corn bread. Martin tells me the locomoco is good too, but I don't eat that crap. They make pies too!
