How long does it take to go from Hana to the Kahului airport?
Is it too much to get up that morning in Hana, drive to the airport, catch the flight to Oahu and then leave for the mainland out of Oahu that evening?
Is 2 days in Hana enough?

What time is your flight from Kahului? The drive depends alot on traffic and how many stops to get banana bread and whatever. Should be able to do it in the 2and 1/2 hr range.

We took an early flight (6:00 a.m.?) from Oahu, drove to Hana, and took the 7:00 p.m. flight back. We stopped at several places along the road to Hana but overall, a single day felt rushed to me. Depending on how much sightseeing/hiking/relaxing you do, I think two days should be fine.

On our next trip, I plan to circle the island instead of retracing our route from Hana to the airport.

Re: driving all around the island from Hana. The Piliani Highway past Kipahulu has been closed since last October's earthquake.

Thanks for your responses. I've driven all the way around and it was one of the most interesting experiences of my life...When do you think the road will open?

I read something that said 2009! Not sure how reliable that information is.

We spent one night there this past February and it wasn't nearly enough time. Two nights would be good, three better, I've done a week there and that was wonderful...for me.

Any suggestions on where to stay in Hana? There may be 6 of us.
