Half price opera tickets

Is there a place like TKTS where you can buy half price or discount tickets to the Metropolitan Opera? Or is there a web site that offers discount tickets? Opera loving (but thrifty) friends are going to NYC in October and would love to go to the Met or even the NYC Opera. Standing room tickets are not an option since our friends are older.

Thanks!

Once in a while, the Playbill website (www.playbill.com) will offer discount tickets for the NY City Opera. However, October is a peak month so don't get your hopes up! I don't remember ever seeing a discount offer for the Met.

My parents have season's tickets, and every once in a while, when they can't make it up to the City, they ask me to sell the tickets for them.

Unless there is a famous singer performing that night, you will ALWAYS be able to purchase tickets at the door within one hour of the performance...and from what I see (and have done myself), tickets are often sold below (maybe even half) face value. Remember, however, that the Opera is not a Broadway show, and therefore you shouldn't expect too deep a discount. Indeed, while I've sold my parents tickets at discounts from time to time(6th row center orchestra), the price has never been cut in half.

Good luck!

You might check with the Met and City Opera they sometimes have deals they offer, and since your friends are probably seniors, ask if there is a plan for them.

Also try ebay.

You might try getting into the final Dress Rehearsal.

Don't know how that would work for the Metropolitan Opera, but we contribute to San Francisco Opera and we get complementary tickets to some dress rehearsals.

Maybe someone from New York might know?

Just a suggestion!

Thanks, all good suggestions! I'll check out the Met web site and see if they offer senior discounts. I'm not sure the exact dates of their trip, sometime in mid October.

The Family Circle seats at the MET Opera are only about $30! Best deal in town. Superior sound up in that section. And, unobstructed view of singers on stage and of orchestra pit. Just bring little binoculars or opera glasses for close ups.
