Had to cancel trip to San Francisco

Had to cancel our trip to San Fran because my father fell and broke his hip. We have tickets for the Chagall exhibit tomorrow and I am so bummed about having to miss it. Maybe we can try again in Sept or Oct.

I can comisserate with that. Had to cancel a trip to France b/c my father fell really ill. I was really glad that I did, though, instead of being in France and being worried about him. Sept/Oct is a great time to head to SF, and the heat will be less by then also.

Maybe it will be for the best - SF weather is usually much better/warmer in the Fall. Take care of your Dad an go when you can actually see the Golden Gate.

I have a friend from Ireland who just spent 6 days in the Bay area (split at both ends of a trip to Hawaii) and the only time she could see the Bridge was when the plane circled before landing at SFO. It was totally fogged in most of the rest of her visits.

Enjoy October . . . .

Orange, so sorry about your father, but you made the right decision cancelling the trip. San Francisco will still be here for long, long time!

My dad (who is 97!) survived the surgery ok but has been totally out of it since then. The doctor is calling it "failure to thrive" and is suggesting hospice, so I am glad I cancelled the trip.

I'm sorry to say my dad died last night. He would have been 97 in three weeks, and had survived so many medical problems that we thought for sure he would survive this one, too, even at his age. Missing the Chagall exhibit and the trip to SF seems very insignificant now.

orangetravelcat...I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. Our best to you all in getting through these tough times. You never can get ready for something like this...parents are invincible in all our minds.

If it's any consolation, it's wonderful that at 97 years he was still living a full life, still traveling, and probably had his sights set on a rain check for SF! That we could all achieve what he has! Again, our best to you and your family.

orangetravelcat,

I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Even though you had your Dad with you for a long time, it is still a difficult time.

With deepest sympathy to you and your family.

Yes, orange, sorry to hear about your dad. You're correct...San Francisco will still be there and the exhibit is insignificant now. Cherish your memories with him. My grandfather died last year at 100 years old and I still miss him but fondly remember our time together.

This news came as a shock after keeping up with your reports on your Dad's condition. I am so sorry.

My Mom was supposed to come on an Alaska cruise with us but she passed away two months before. Now, two years later, we still wish we could have had that trip together. But, as was said above, it is some consolation that the person was living an active life right up to near the end.

Dear Orangetravelcat: So sorry to hear about your Dad.

I lost both my parents 10 years ago and have since tried to travel to all their favorite places as well as the ones they wanted to see but never did.

It makes me feel close to them, almost as though they're with me when I'm at a historical site my Dad would have loved or gazing at a painting my art teacher Mom taught me about.

Take care.

orangetravelcat. So sorry to hear about your Dad. Be sure to take care of yourself - at times like these we sometimes try to do too much and end up frazzled and getting sick ourselves.

God Bless
