We just returned from a few days in Santa Fe and since I read posts looking for hotel and restuarant suggestions, I thought I'd make one. We enjoyed all our meals, but Diego's was by far the best. We ate there three times. I don't like spicy food but got the chili on the side and that worked fine. We always had to wait 5 or 10 minutes. Service was good. It is in the DeVargas mall and not a romantic spot, but would work well for
families and others who want good food served quickly.

krisz, you found a local favorite!! You're right - the strip mall aspect isn't appealing but the food is fabulous. Diego's is the same family as Tia Sophia's in the Plaza. Love their food and need my chile fix now!

What other places did you try? How about a trip report! :-?

BeachGirl, I thought I did post more details right after you asked, but the post didn't appear. We ate at Harry's Roadhouse, Maria's Kitchen, and Zia's.
At Zia's my husband's coconut milkshake had something crackerlike in the bottom so he was given a banana one too. They were both good.

We stayed in a condo and got groceries at Kaunes. At least I think that was the name. We found all kinds of things there we can't buy at home, such as chopped liver made with schmaltz.

We mostly just ate and shopped and relaxed. We enjoyed taking our dog to the puppy park where he had a great time. One day we spent at Ojo Caliente which was fun. We drove to Taos. I spent a semester in Taos many years ago. I looked for my old apartment, but if it's still there, I couldn't find it. I lived there back when there were just two paved roads. We spent a Sat. morning at the Farmer's Market which was great fun. I was surprised at the variety of items for sale. I brought back herbal rememdies for everything that ails me and mine. We had a wonderful trip.

Did you enjoy Harry's Roadhouse? It's a fun place to eat and love the back patio/courtyard -- very charming and lovely on a good day. They have a great veggie burger with green chiles and their chicken enchiladas are good, too.

Maria's is a great place, too. Did you have one of their many margaritas? Those have to be the most potent margaritas anywhere.

Kaune's is correct. It's at Paseo de Peralta and Old Pecos Trail. Been there for as long as I can remember and used to have one in the plaza but it's no longer there. We shop at Whole Foods (if the parking lot isn't too crazy) or Albertson's as its on the way back to our house rental.

I just got my Santa Fean magazine. have been there 3 times now. The art art art makes me feel like this is a place I belong. concerned about the elevation though for both myself and my cat. Do animals have a difficult time breathing; is having the heart work harder a problem if you have a family history of heart disease (tho none for me yet). I feel so like a fish out of water in PA - at least in Sarasota felt some sort of spiritual energy but zip in PA. Also feel it in Santa Fe and Sedona. Have been depressed for the whole almost 3 years I've been back in PA. i know I need to get back to a place that makes me feel better.any advice for those who live there? I will be 54 in Nov, single, healthy (dancer, work out), artistic... world traveler, love different cultures. One of the shopkeepers said during my last visit that 'it's an easy town to make friends.' I'd be starting all over, knowing no one. How easy is it and is there alot to get involved in?
