Guessing hotwire hotels NYC?

Is there any website like biddingfortravel for hotwire info? I've searched here but came up with nothing.

Anyone have any idea what this might be?
3* Boutique Hotel
Upper West Side
$90

I had this same question when I was looking for a hotel in Chicago and wanted to use hotwire. There is not a biddingfortravel-type site for Hotwire, the best you can do is exactly what you're doing; ask for opinions and also ask what hotels others have "won" using hotwire. It would be very helpful if people could tell you the NYC area that they bid, the star level, the bid price, and the dates of travel.

For what it's worth...when I used hotwire.com for my hotel in Chicago 7 months ago I received The Westin on Michigan Ave. I was very pleased in all regards, especially the great location.

For $90 on the UWS, who cares what hotel it is, it will be fine. Given that a $90 regular rate would probably get you a cot and a shared bathroom, it is going to be a good bargain.

Some possibilities may be The Hudson, The Empire, or The Lucerne. Also The Beacon.
I would agree, though, that at $90, that's a great rate, and you should take it!

I also think it's a great rate, and finally something I can afford! But I'm worried it will be a dump like the West End Studios or maybe the Comfort Inn, which is fine except I would prefer something with more character. Is it possible that it is shared bath and that is why it is so cheap?

It is says its a boutique hotel, it is not going to be either of the ones you mentioned, nor is it going to have shared baths. Look at the definition of "boutique hotel" on the hotwire site.

It could be the Belvedere as well...go for it! This is a good deal. Let us know which hotel you get.

I found the Comfort Inn listed as a boutique hotel somewhere on the internet, and they had low prices so I figured this may be it. Not such a great deal if it is.

I just love the comments like "what difference does it make so long as it's a bargain?" I personally do think it makes a big diffence where I stay and don't appreciate staying in a dump even if it is "bargain".
Would the people who say this buy unmarked and undated milk at the grocery and drink it because it was a "bargain" at 25 cents per gallon, risking their health and happiness. A bargain is not always a bargain.

If I paid 25 cents for milk, I would be prepared to be disappointed and realize I could get sour milk, but still felt I had gotten a bargain.

The problem with your analogy is that it doesn't apply. The website rates the hotels (gives them stars) and tells you about their amenities. It even gives you a basic definition of what to expect. Given all of those qualifiers and safety checks, you have a certain guarantee of what a 3* boutique hotel is going to be like. You know it is not going to be the Ritz Carlton, but you also know it isn't going to be the "Fleabag Inn." Given those limits, you are bound to be satisfied as long as your realistic.

Through priceline, the 3* Upper West Side hotel a friend got was the Hudson, which definitely qualifies as a boutique hotel.

Monique, you really got me curious now. Could you come back and tell us what hotel you got?

By the way, the Hudson Hotel, which I think would be a good deal for $90, is on 58th. Isn't that really more midtown than the UWS?

I also got the Westin North Michigan Avenue. The location was good, but the hotel was under renovation.

I think this is the post that initiated me starting a new forum for Hotwire hotels (also includes Priceline) at:

www.thenassaus.com/forums

It's all set up, so please stop by to add the hotels you've received thru Hotwire (or Priceline).
