Guessing hotwire hotels NYC?

I had this same question when I was looking for a hotel in Chicago and wanted to use hotwire. There is not a biddingfortravel-type site for Hotwire, the best you can do is exactly what you're doing; ask for opinions and also ask what hotels others have "won" using hotwire. It would be very helpful if people could tell you the NYC area that they bid, the star level, the bid price, and the dates of travel.

I also think it's a great rate, and finally something I can afford! But I'm worried it will be a dump like the West End Studios or maybe the Comfort Inn, which is fine except I would prefer something with more character. Is it possible that it is shared bath and that is why it is so cheap?

I just love the comments like "what difference does it make so long as it's a bargain?" I personally do think it makes a big diffence where I stay and don't appreciate staying in a dump even if it is "bargain".
Would the people who say this buy unmarked and undated milk at the grocery and drink it because it was a "bargain" at 25 cents per gallon, risking their health and happiness. A bargain is not always a bargain.

If I paid 25 cents for milk, I would be prepared to be disappointed and realize I could get sour milk, but still felt I had gotten a bargain.
The problem with your analogy is that it doesn't apply. The website rates the hotels (gives them stars) and tells you about their amenities. It even gives you a basic definition of what to expect. Given all of those qualifiers and safety checks, you have a certain guarantee of what a 3* boutique hotel is going to be like. You know it is not going to be the Ritz Carlton, but you also know it isn't going to be the "Fleabag Inn." Given those limits, you are bound to be satisfied as long as your realistic.

I think this is the post that initiated me starting a new forum for Hotwire hotels (also includes Priceline) at:
www.thenassaus.com/forums
It's all set up, so please stop by to add the hotels you've received thru Hotwire (or Priceline).
No spam and No pop-up ads!
