My wife and I are will be coming to New York 3/4 and 5th and will have a car.
Are there any decent hotels that have a parking garage in the Greenwich area or Mid Town West.

I assume you mean Greenwich Village in New York City, rather than the city in Connecticut named Greenwich.
I know of no hotels (decent or otherwise) in Greenwich Village with parking garages within the same facility.
In Midtown West, there's the Hilton New York (6th Avenue between 53rd and 54th) and the Sheraton New York (7th Avenue between 52nd & 53rd).
Be forewarned: Both are expensive for parking--at least $30 a day.

What about Union Square or the Flat Iron?
We are buying a car in New York and driving it back cross country. We are worried about where to keep our car while we are in New York City.

You should stay on Long Island then as that is where Jericho is located. Do a Google search for hotels and Jericho, New York. It will be much cheaper and you won't need a garage.

Jericho is a suburb on Long Island - about 30 miles - perhaps an hour - depending on traffic - outside of Manhattan.

Not sure exactly where you will pick it up - would ask the dealer the best way to get there - assume it would be LIRR and then taxi - but I don;t think there is a station in Jericho - so not sure where you would get out? Perhaps Hicksville or Syosset?

Get out at Syosset and take a taxi to your destination.

Mark, tell us exactly what your plan is so we can help. Are you flying here? If yes, what airport etc. Do you plan to go straight from the airport? Is the car IN Jericho or on Jericho Tpke? Why do you ask about Greenwich Village? There are not very many hotels there, let alone ones with garages.

Sorry for all the questions, but sometimes it helps to know the whole story. The iconparking website is great. Some of the cheapest parking is all the way on the west side on 10th & 11th aves. but some of these, in fact maybe all are not covered. Is this a brand new car?? Will it have plates?

Most of the better hotels have garages or at least offer valet parking at a nearby garage. What sort of budget (for hotel) are you looking for?

We want to spend two nights in New York City, but did not want to have to deal with having a car and we hoping to find some safe place to park it and then just get around on the subway.
We bought the car on Ebay.
We fly into JFK friday morning at 8am and are going to picked up and brought out to the car in either Jericho or Plainview.
It is a new car and we don't want to park it on the street. That is why we were originally thinking of a hotel with a parking garage.
We don't want to stay outside of the city.

So how had you planned on getting from JFK to the car place? It would be a shame to have to go into the city to get a train out to LI when JFK is actually on Long Island. If you need public transport, my only other idea is to get a cab from JFK to Jamaica Queens LIRR station and get a train from there.

I don't think you need a hotel with a garage. You just need a good dependable, IMO covered garage. Pick a hotel that suits your budget and your needs and then look for a garage on the iconparking website.

Sorry Mark. I've reread your answer and see someone is picking you up at the airport to take you to the car. So now, what is your hotel budget and what do you plan to do for the 2 days in NYC? Greenwich Village is charming but as I said, there aren't too many hotels down there and it's a confusing area to drive. Midtown is much easier on a grid system with square blocks.

Here's one scenario. Driving from LI, you 'd come into NYC with the midtown tunnel (which enters NY at 34 st). Icon has a few garages in that area that would cost $42 from about 2pm on Fri. through Sunday morning and they closed garages. One is

Thanks for suggestions. Am I right in understanding that the garage you mention is not affiliated with any hotel? We have no problem with that and assume it is probably much less expensive than having a hotel handle the car-correct? Speaking of hotels, any ideas for the gramercy park/union square/lower midtown area -doesn't have to be right in greenwich. Our budget is $150-200. Thanks, Mark

Actually there IS a hotel with covered parking and the parking is FREE there if you are a guest.

It's the Travel Inn on W. 42nd St, between 8th and 9th AVe. It is close to the West Side Highway and the Lincoln Tunnel (34th St).

It is a basic hotel, but has gotten decent reviews. It's around $100 a night.

Sorry to be picky - but if you go around asking people in NYC about Greenwich they will send you to the town in Connecticut. (And from Jericho that wold be a really long detour - like two hours - to get into Manhattan).

If you want to talk about Greenwich Village you need to either use the full name - or say "the village" - or no one will know what you mean.

Yes, the iconparking system has no affiliation with a hotel and it should be considerably cheaper than hotel parking but I don't know about every possibility. There may be weekend offers that include parking.

has some very appealing weekend deals if the dates work for you. The Roger Williams (wouldn't be my pick the most "southerly" option) at $179/night. I'd love the Drake Swissotel for $199(but it's midtown) or the Barclay or the Beekman Towers for less than $150 for a suite! They also have the Embassy Suites which is all the way downtown near the South Street Seaport.

The Travel Inn is an option but not one I'd love. I still think you should check the Park South Hotel I mentioned for your dates. Their packages may be more than $200/night but will include breakfast and things like Broadway tickets or dinner etc. Here's the page with the offers

The W Union Square is a lovely hotel and may have some weekend specials. I remember Gekko, a frequent NYC poster once mentioned Ws in NY have weekend specials. That would be worth checking on their website.

The Gramercy Park Hotel is pretty grotty, at least last I was there. The Sheraton Four Points Chelsea is probably an area you'd like but I think their rates have been pretty high. Other hotels I know of in that downtown area are really just a step up from hostels (ie the Union Square Inn).

By the way, pick a hotel and see if they offer parking and how much it is. Then check Icon. Because you're coming on a weekend (and without knowing the exact hours you need parking), you may find the hotel isn't that much more than a separate garage.

Mark: The Midtown area is going to be your best bet for garages and/or hotels with garages or valet. The further you go downtown, the fewer hotels there are as well as fewer garages. Everyone has given you very good suggestions. First, pick a hotel and then find out if they have valet or garage and if not search for the garage closest to your hotel. Note one thing -- I live in Manhattan and I have a car and I park it in a covered lot. Cars are packed very tightly in garages in this city so don't be surprised if your brand new car comes out with a couple of dings. I still suggest not bringing the car into the city. Stay at a hotel on Long Island, leave your nice brand new car parked out there and take the LIRR in to visit. Just my opinion, but that's what I would do.

Oh... and by the way. Just another reminder *not* to say simply Greenwich when speaking about Greenwich Village. Either The Village or full name. Just Greenwich and we'll send you to Connecticut.
