I really enjoyed Gary Danko's a lot when I went SF in June of this year.

Ponzu is good and it's near the Nikko on Taylor.

For Italian, try Delfina's in Mission or Rose Pistola in North Beach.

You would be hard-pressed to find a clinker among Michael Bauer's top 100 SF restaurant choices for 2002. His list - and many more culinary articles - can be found at sfgate.com (under Entertainment heading > Food & Dining sub-heading).

Fifth FLoor, Elizabeth Daniels, Masa's, Crustacean, the Great Eastern. Go to www.sfvisitors.org or www.opentable.com to read reviews of restaurants. There are tons of wonderful ones. I personally wouldn't recommend Rose Pistola, it's gone a bit downhill in recent months. Aqua is good but very loud---tables quite close together. You might like to look at Ana Mandara. Betelnut is a pan Asian in Cow Hollow which is currently hot part of town.

The SF board is one of the most active on chowhound.com . Well-worth checking out.

How about Swiss Cousine ? I recommend you the "Matterhorn" on Van Ness. Very good food and the atmosphere is very special.

So long...

Ditto on Gary Danko. It's a bit of a hike, but you might want to try Chez Panisse in Oakland.

It's really a bit of a hike to Chez Panisse if you go to Oakland, because it's in north Berkeley.
