I will be in Seattle in Mid-March with my spouse and would like a quiet, clean hotel. We are considering the Grand Hyatt or the Hotel Monaco. The Grand Hyatt has received wonderful reviews/ratings. The Hotel Monoca has also received rave reviews, however, I'm concerned about their pet policy. I would prefer not to hear parking dogs, or be booked in a room previously occupied by a cat because of allergies. Can anyone make recommendations. Also, looking for a great discount web site.

I never let my dog park the car when I'm at the Grand Hyatt, but I'll sometimes let him back out of the garage stall when we stay at the Hotel Monaco.

I'd be surprised that any pet issues would interfere with your stay - most "pet friendly" hotels limit occupancy to a few rooms so that the cleaners can be alerted in advance.

That said, I'd probably go with the Hyatt for location. The Monaco is a few blocks away from the commercial core (in more of an office area) while the Hyatt is close to most of the flagship retailers, if that's an issue. Both are roughly equidistant from the Pike Market, for example.

Aside from the usual suspects, have a look at hotels.com for discount rates (which requires a prepay, but, unlike Hotwire or Priceline, allows you to see the name of the hotel in advance.) No guarantees, though - Seattle hotel rates have been and remain very high.

Both are really nice but pretty different in feel.

The Monaco is only 4 blocks from the main shopping and is right across the street from the W and the Fairmont so the location isn't really an issue IMO. also a quick 4 block walk to the SAM. Things I like about the Monaco are they go out of their way to give you fanastic service! Also they have free wine receptions each evening for guests and I love the cute gold fish you can get in your room. Plus the decor is fun, upbeat and eclectic.

the Hyatt is really nice inside, I haven't stayed the night here like I have at the Monaco but have been inside and also at the restauarnt. It is nice but it is also a big hotel, a little on the business feel. It is right across the street from the shopping core and convention center (hense the business feel I guess).

so it depends what type of feel you want. Looking for more boutique- ish? Monaco! Looking for more businessy Hyatty? Grand Hyatt. Are you going to go wrong with either? Nope!

p.s. pets only stay in Monnaco smoking rooms and you can let the hotel know in advance of your concerns/alergies. I've never even seen a pet in there but of course it could happen. Also if you want to splurge the Mediterain Suite has the largest jucuzzi bathtub I've ever been in. I stayed here for my wedding night and it was awesome.

Sorry for the previous flippant reply. Priceline is not real useful in Seattle. I'm pretty sure that both the Hyatt and/or the Monaco do not participate with Priceline in Seattle. If you bid for a four star hotel, chances are you'll end up at the Sheraton for around $130. We did stay at the DT Red Lion using Priceline, and I think the rate was around $80.

All things being equal, I would stay at the Monaco for the same reasons as the previous poster. I can't remember ever seeing a pet (other than a goldfish) at either place.

Also, biddingfortravel.com has recently reported the Hotel Vintage Park coming up at $65/night - it's supposed to be a 4*.

I normally like Kimpton properties, but I was disappointed in the Monaco. We stayed in a suite at the a few months ago and thought it was just OK. The room looked out onto an office building and was pretty dark. Also, most of the common areas of the hotel were very noisy (and not because of barking dogs). The restaurant is fine. Have you looked at the Alexis?
