Grand canyon..whereto stay

Looking at staying in Williams or Flagstaff. Which would you suggest as place to explore GC and route 66.

For the Grand Canyon, inside the park for sure. Or just outside in Tusayan. Williams and Flagstaff are each at least an hour more from Tusayan, which is still some distance from the canyon.

Definitely in the park...and visit the rim at sunset or sunrise for the best photographs.

Agree, stay inside the park. If they are full, take the number and call everyday keep calling, as people make reservations way in advance and then find they can't make the trip when time gets close.

Stay in the park. It is wonderful to be able to walk to the Canyon rim at dawn and dusk. Lovely.

If you can't get in-park accomodations, then Tusayan has many (overpriced) motels.

Williams and Flagstaff are too far away.

Not much of route 66 left to explore. Kingman is about it.

I agree, you should stay in the park. There is a variety of types of accommodation, and prices are reasonable. Is there a reason you would prefer Williams and Flagstaff?
