I tried to reply on Friday, but my computer was "acting up", and it didn't show up.

Anyway - one of the reasons we are going to the Grand Canyon in December is we live in Alaska. December in Alaska is cold, dark and snowy.

Secondly, my sister in law lives in Tucson, and we will be spending Christmas with her and her family.

We were at the GC last December also, and the trail was icy for the first half mile or so. We watched the mules go down (they will still go even if it's snowing).

We also spoke to a group of people who had just finished an overnight trip and they said it was worth every cent!

Yes, they do wear special "ice shoes".

Another thing about the GC in winter - a LOT less people!

Thanks
Gilbert

Just a tip: If you aren't adapted to riding a horse/mule, you will probably have muscle aches next day after your trip to the Ranch. This ride is not for the weak of knees or stomach. Beautiful scenery but can be frightening.

I have reservations for the overnight trip to Phantom Ranch in October. I've had the reservations for over a year and have had lots of people tell me I'm nuts. Thanks for all the posts here about the trip. I know it will be scary, but I can't wait.
