grand canyon lodging, etc

Hi to all of you Arizona experts...we ( 2 adults, 3 kids ages 13, 12, 7) are going to be in Phoenix the first week of June. just decided to spend part of that time seeing the grand canyon..read recent messages and have a few questions: bright angel is currently booked..will check back but the website offers the Yavapai and the Maswik lodge as options..anyone know anything about those? we are flying in and out of phoenix..should we stop in sedona or anywhere else..we need to be in phoenix three days then have three days for the GC journey...any tips appreciated...

For a description of those places,

To see where they are located relative to other stuff in Grand Canyon Village,

Hi,

I stayed at Yavapai last October. It is fine. You can walk to the market area (or drive if you want) and then pick up the shuttle to the canyon. The shuttles run regularly and we found it to be fine. Maswik is also a little away from the canyon, but on the other side of the Bright Angel area. The rooms were basic but comfortable. I would stay in Yavapai again.

Sedona is lovely. The kids might like a Pink Jeep tour (the adults too), and if you are hikers, it is a beautiful area to hike. I'd stop if you have the time.

Hi susanchristine. Just wanted to add I stayed at the Maswik lodge last summer and had no complaints. Very basic accommodations, but clean and convenient. Parking was easier than what we saw going on in front of the the Bright Angel, Kachina, etc. and it was a short, easy walk to the rim.

We stayed in Maswik and I agree with the previous poster. Very basic and clean. It is not as noisy as the lodges near the rim and the parking situation is better than around the market area.
