grand canyon attn Utahtea !!
Utahtea,
i have seen your name appear many times on posts regarding the grand canyon topic. I also noticed you are a fellow RV'er. We enjoy the lifestyle very much and are planning our first trip to the grand canyon at the end of march 2005. Can you be so kind as to offer advice about what to do and see from an RV'ers perspective. We will be coming from central CA spending approx 7 days in the GC area and would like to make efficient use of our time in the South rim. I look forward to your response and would appreciate if you could also email me directly.
THANK YOU !

Hi morfor,
We like camping in the park at Mather campground. They don't have hook ups at this campground but the Trailer Village in the park does. If you want to stay at the Trailer Village you need to make reservations as soon as you decide on the dates you will be there. Mather shouldn't be a problem but you might want to make reservations just before you leave home.
We like camping in the park because we can leave our rig and take the shuttle buses to all of the Canyon Village locations. We like to hike along the rim and pick up the shuttle when we get tired. Now I've never been to the Grand Canyon in March, but we have driven thought Flagstaff in mid-March and ran into snow! I think it's common for this time of the year.
Do you plan 7 days at the Grand Canyon or do you plan to move around? Sedona is to the south and Lake Powell is to the north.
I live in the SF Bay Area and it takes two days to get to the Grand Canyon. I would spend at least 2 - 3 nights at the Grand Canyon, then move up to Lake Powell for maybe one night, then maybe move up to Bryce Canyon National Park for one night...it's going to be COLD in Bryce because of the 8,000 ft elevation, then to Zion Canyon National Park for 2 nights before heading home. We have driven from Zion to home in one day...but it's a LONG day.
If you don't want to do that much moving around then you might like to spend several days at the Grand Canyon and a few days in Sedona. I don't have any experience in camping in Sedona.
If you need more information on the other campgrounds...just let me know.
Another good source for information will be at RV.net forums. Lots of RV's with lots of experience and it's as active a board as fodors.

Hello,
I miss the days when we traveled in an RV. So wonderful. Not many choices up there, Mathers is good.
Do check out the original Lodge Hotels there. The fireplace in one, is amazing as the rocks were lined up as were found in canyon, to represent age of canyon.
Make ressies for an amazing dinner at the biggest lodge there. The food is superb. Check out and learn about MAy Jane Colter, architect. Her works look old, but they are not. Drive out to see The Watchtower. Amazing building, learn about it, ask questions. Great view on that eat Rim too.
Relax, take a nature walk with a park ranger.
