Good value restaurants along California central coast?

My friend and I are traveling from LA to Monterey. We would appreciate any recommendations for good moderately priced restaurants along the way. Thanks!

What is a moderately priced entree to you? Any type of food?

Any type of food..where locals eat, as opposed to fast food chains or touristy places..thanks!

You still didn't tell us your price range. I find $20 or less for an entree to be fine, but my travel friend likes to pay around $10 per meal.

Papa Chano's in Monterey- $5 (used to be) burritos. No ambiance, but good food.

There are a number of good restaurants in the coastal town of Cambria. A few of my favorites include Robin's and Sow's Ear. Lombardi's is also good if you want a very reasonably priced bowl of pasta. Linn's is popular with the tourists, but I feel it's over-priced for the so-so food (and who wants to fight the tourist crowds?)

Esau's on State Street in Santa Barbara has great breakfasts at "local" prices.
Haven't eaten there for lunch, but should be good.

An hour or so after leaving L.A., take the Summerland exit for a great breakfast at the Summerland Beach Cafe, or the Big Yellow House next door.

Up in Carmel, the unique Barnyard Shopping Center has a great gourmet pizza place.

Big Yellow House is a tourist trap. Head to the taco shack: La Super Rico in Santa Barbara instead - it's where Julia Childs eats.
