Hello,

I am going to Seaside at the end of July and I have accumulated a list of restaurants but wanted to know which ones were better than others. Does not matter what type of food or atmosphere, just want to know about taste. Dont have to list all, can just pick the top five or so...

Thanks!
michelle

No one ever mentions Girtle's,and we think it is the best seafood restaurant in the city. It's across the street from the P&P.

Taste of Tuscany is very good, I haven't heard too many good things about Guido and Vito's. Tora is the new Japanese restaurant where Kalypso used to be. Good food, they have also added a suishi bar when we were there a few weeks ago.

One not on your list that we love is Bigfoot's Pub & Grub. Really good quality food, we love the ribs on Sunday night. Real comfort food place and the best bruschetta in the area, served with lots of yummy feta cheese. Corpeny's is very good for breakfast or lunch, we like the clam chowder at Norma's and cocunut prawns at Sam's. Last time we were in Sam's service was really slow, tho.

My daughter has taken my husband to McKeown's a couple of times for Father's Day brunch, I had a really great breakfast there once.

Another one to add to your list is Lil Bayou for Cajun food. Pacific Way in Gearhart is great, we had some really good pizza there last month, they have also added a nice outdoor patio with a fountain in the back.

Stop by the Bell Bouy for some really fresh prawn or shrimp cocktail, they also make a really good salmon spread that we like to take back to our beach cottage to put on crackers. Enjoy Seaside! ***kim***

Several of the places on your list aren't in Seaside (Camp 18 is over 20 miles away), so unless you're willing to drive, your choices are narrowed.

If you are willing to drive, I'd definitely include Pacific Way Bakery and Cafe, a couple miles north in Gearhart. It's much more than a pizza place - in fact, it's not really a pizza place at all. I think of it as the quintessential Oregon coast restaurant: comfortable, casual, non-corporate, and consistently good food across the varied menu options. I've also heard good things from trusted sources about Girtle's, and not so good things about Lil Bayou and McKeown's, though I've never been to either. Apparently looks are deceiving, because I've never been tempted to stop at BigFoot Pub & Grub. Isn't that where you have to bring your own wine glasses, kimamom?

We usually end up in Cannon Beach when we go to the coast for the day or weekend. It's only 10 miles from Seaside, but IMO, those 10 miles make a huge difference in the quality of restaurant choices.

Thank you for the replies. I just took a list of restaurants off the web and assumed that they were in Seaside. So knowing that some are further out was great.

Thanks again!

We were there last August for our second trip to the area, so even tho I do not qualify as an expert I will share my 2 cents worth.

If you are looking for tasty food, try Sam's Seaside Cafe. I agree the coconut shrimp are great. they were served with a raspberry dipping sauce, which sounds like it would be too sweet, but was actually very good. We also had sandwiches there which were very good. It is very casual and prices are very moderate.

If you like Japanese food, try Tora. I thought the food and service were very good.

Lil Bayou we thought had good, tasty food, but a little overpriced.

I personally like Pig'n Pancake; if you are in the mood for pretty standard American food it fills the bill.

Hope you enjoy your trip to Seaside!

Another place we like for breakfast is the Shilo Oceanfront, they do a nice buffet there on Sundays and there are oceanviews here. We had a very mediocre dinner there last summer but the views are great here. I also like to go in for appetizers of their Steamed Clams with a glass of Pinot Gris in the afternoon before dinner. ***kim***
