Good place for lunch Mid-town?

My wife and I will be staying in the city next week (Memorial Day weekend) and are meeting a good friend of mine for lunch on Friday. We would like a place we could walk to from the hotel (Park Central) that also has a good wine by the glass selection.
Italian would be our first choice but we would appreciate any good suggestions.
Thanks.

Two places that come to mind are Rue 57 (French) on 6th and 57th and the Red Eye Grill(seafood) on 56th and 7th (I think). I have never had lunch at either but have had nice dinners at both. I also like Trattoria del'Arte (Italian) on 7th and 57th (I think) but same deal-- I have had a couple of excellent dinners there but never lunch. Il Tinello gets good reviews but I have not been there. Others can probably expand this list. Have fun.

A slightly further walk than Eeva's suggestions is Fresco. It's one of my absolute faves -- Italian, warm hospitality. It is on 53 b/t Madison and Park, but closer to Madison.

You will likely get more responses to this post if you put NYC in the thread title. People can't tell that you (I'm guessing) clicked on New York whe you posted.

It would be hard to beat Osteria del Circo, a short walk away on 55th. A bit pricey, but fantastic food, atmosphere, and service with lots of variety of good wines by the glass.
Reservations essential.
www.osteriadelcirco.com for menus.
