golfing in southeast Winconsin

My husband and I are going to be in Wis. the end of July and would like to know of some reasonably priced good golf courses in and around Milwaukee and door county and Madison. We also would like some info on scenic drives in and around those areas.

There are a great many fair priced courses. July can be hot so I would say look at courses next to lake Michigan. Grant Park in South Milwaukee, Warnemont in Cudahy, Shoops in Racine etc. Same in Madison and Door County by a lake. Otherwise get here and ask around for latest Scoop. Some are annoying due to speed police hurry hurry etc. Others are quiet etc. Repost the question with specific criteria that you want. fast slow, flat hilly, hard easy etc.

There are no scenic drives in those areas, just short stretches of roads. But staying off the freeway is more “scenic” by taking highways instead. The most scenic driving in the state is the coulee region west of Madison. it is best in autumn. And the Northern 1/3 of the state to some extent.

About 40 minutes northwest of downtown Milwaukee, in Richfield, is Kettle Hills Golf course. It's in a very scenic area near Holy Hill. Take a drive up Hogsback Road while you're in the area. Check the Wisconsin dot website for the "rustic roads" guide.

Erin Hills in the town of Delafield has a gorgeous golf course. Not exactly sure on how prices run, but it looks beautiful! Delafield is about a half an hour west of Milwaukee. As for a scenic drive, I would recommend driving to Door County...it's a beautiful place to visit in the summer and you'll get an excellent view of Lake Michigan too.

If you are looking for views of Lake Michigan and cooler temperatures, Shoops Golf Course in Racine is hard to beat. The prices are very reasonable, the Wind Point Lighthouse makes a wonderful backdrop for the first 5 holes, and the course is quite easy with only 9 holes. The only possible negative is that there are no golf carts so one must walk the entire course. You can rent wheeled carts for your clubs at the club house. If breezes are blowing off the lake, the temperatures will be 10-15 degrees cooler than inland. The Milwaukee Sentinel had a good review of it last summer so it is busier than before it was "discovered." The lake front, north beach, Wind Point Lighthouse and harbor also offer scenic stops in the area. If you plan to spend the night in Door County in July, I would HIGHLY recommend hotel reservations in advance since it gets very busy and crowded in the summer. Enjoy your Wisconsin visit!

If you are golfing in Door County, I recommend Peninsula State Park. Just about every hole has a spot where there is a scenic overlook from high above the water.
