Going to Scottsdale end of March

Hi,
We will be heading to Scottsdale Arizon at the end of March, my husband has a business trip there so we(me & 12 year old daughter) are going with him. Can anyone recommend a good place to stay with a nice pool and also any recommendations on places to visit while we are there. Is it more than a day trip to visit the Grand Canyon from there? I've read on the site that Sedona is nice is that within driving distance?
Thanks for your help!

Accomodations range is extreme in Scottsdale. There are many wonderful places, but you need to give a price range. Also, there are many, many things to do but depends on your interests. Museums? hiking?, water parks, shopping?, native American sites?, historical homes?: again, you need to give us more information.

It's spring training in Phoenix/Scottdale and the games are soooo fun! Might want to check out some of the hunky baseball players.

we are staying at the Sedona Plaza Resort

You can do the Grand Canyon as a very long day trip. If you think this is the only time you might have to visit the canyon, then I would strongly consider it. If not, I would opt for Sedona and the Verde Valley (Montezuma's Castle & Well, Tuzigoot, Jerome)

We're also staying at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort mid April and going to the U2 concert.
I'd love to hear from any of you after your stay there to let us know what you thought about the place. Thanks

You also should consider taking in the Phoenix Botanical Gardens. Even the 12 year old will enjoy - I promise! The phoenix zoo is quite good, also. Not to be missed (IMO) is a jeep or horseback ride into the desert. I can't recommend a horse provider prsonally, but there are several that will take you. The jeep tour goes off road and is quite amazing -- you will get deeper into the desert this way. The jeep tour company that I like (and I live here!) is Wild West Tours in Scottsdale. Excellent service, great guides, very knowledgable. Personally, I would never drive to the GC for one day. 4 hours each direction -- no thanks. There's many other things to see. Sedona and Jerome are well worht the trip.

If you like to shop, there are plenty of outlet malls out that way -- Arizona Mills, Anthem, and Sedona. Also, there are many art galleries in old Scottsdale.

For a good deal on hotels, check www.biddingfortravel.com before bidding on Priceline.

If you like Frank Lloyd Wright at all, check out Taliesin West.

Sedona is a doable day trip from Scottsdale. The GC would be a very long day. Any chance you could spend the night in Sedona one night and then go to the GC the next day? We did this and then came the long way back to Scottsdale via the White Mtns. Beautiful drive and so different from the rest of AZ.
