We would like to take our 2 kids (ages 12 and 9) to Myrtle beach the 1st week in NOv. I'm finding alot of things are closed - some open. I know it won't necessarily be swimming weather, but I'm getting the feeling that it won't be worth the 14 hour drive if we have really bad weather. I could stand nice days in the 60's, but is it that predictable? Thanks!

While it is a great family place, I don't know if I would do a 14 hour drive for Myrtle that time of year. No, the weather is not predictable.

I think enough stuff would be open for you to be able to dine out and such, but not sure about activities for the kids.

I see in another post that you are debating the Florida Panhandle. If I were you, I would probably lean that way.

As a resident of MB, I have noticed that MB is slowly becoming more of a year-round destination (but of course summer still rules).

Nearly everything in MB is open in early November. The only things I can think of that would affect your kids would be that the amusement parks close (The Pavilion and Family Kingdom), as does the water park (although that won't really be an issue as you're not planning on swimming). However, Nascar speedpark remains open, as does Alligator Adventure, as does the aquarium, as do most of the mini-golf parks, and all the shops & restaurants (with very, very few exceptions). Also, the weather will probably be nice enough that you plan on spending some days on the beach (see below).

While no-one can perfectly predict the weather, I will tell you that October and November are my favorite months. Early November is usually great weather--temps in the 70s (60s minimum), and sometimes the ocean temp is still warm enough to wade, if not swim. While freak weather can happen anytime of year, I can tell you that generally the weather in early November will exceed your expectations.

Wherever you go, have a great time!

The best thing is that you won't have to fight any crowds, and traffic is non-existent.

We visited Myrtle at Thanksgiving a year ago and my two kids swam 3 out of 4 days. We had beautiful weather in the high 70s, so you never know. While the rides were closed, the games on the boardwalk were open and they had a great time there. Restaurants and shops were open and it was nice to be there with no crowds.

We went to MB early in November for four years in a row. (Golf, Golf, Golf!) One year was delightful. One year was cool, but enjoyable for golf and walking on the beach. One year was drizzly, foggy and miserable for anything. The last year we went and swore never again. It rained the first three days so we left and came home. Maybe your luck will be good. No golf! No anything!!

The prettiest time of year to be at the beach in our opinon. There is plenty for the kids to do--think endless putt putt. The weather can be absolutely delightful that time of year.
