Last week Yahoo!News featured a story about legislation pending in Australia which *prohibits petting live sharks*!
Seems the Aussies are quite comfortable with their knowledge of sharks and local officials were very concerned to find a dead whale near a popular beach. A father and his 5 year old son were spotted 'patting a shark on the nose' as it was repeatedly ripping flesh from the whale. Other beachgoers were joining in the festivities.

Another bit of misleading statistical info:
highest risk of being attacked by a shark in Florida is at midday. On a PER PERSON PER HOUR basis, the risk is low at dusk and dawn. Because far fewer swimmers are in the water then.
But the curve showing when sharks attack is nil at all dark hours and peaks at noon-2 PM.
