Two weeks ago I took my sister to an upscale and excellent restaurant here in NYC. (11 Madison Park)
My sister asked for a gluten-free meal and they complied, even without advance notice.
When she commented on the excellent bread, the waiter told her that it came from Whole Foods. So you might look for it if and when you visit Whole Foods.

Go to BabyCakes in the Lower East Side! They have gluten free / dairy free cupcakes.

Candle Cafe on the Upper East Side is also a nice spot to have dinner.

Very glad I found this thread. I also will be looking for gluten-free items, however I will also need for them to be sugar-free as well (although NOT lactose free). Anyone know of places that are both gluten AND sugar free?
Also are the "famous" bagel makers such as H&H or Ess-A-Bagel making some of their products gluten and/or sugar free?
Thanks in advance for any help.
