GLenwoods Springs CO
I am thinking of riding along in November with the hunters. I am considering staying in Glenwood Springs as a base. I will not have a car but can rent one. I have started tod read reviews on Tripadvisor and have looked at VRBO.
PLease send lodging suggestions. I enjoy walking so would like to be able to walk to shops and to eat.

I usually stay at the Courtyard, but it's not in a great location for walking to shops and eating.
Staying downtown or near the hot springs pool would be your best option. Don't stay at the Hotel Colorado but take a walk through the building as it's an interesting old building.
Before you book a place, I'd ask about any construction going on that might impact your walks.

Aspen is a long ways away if the hunting is around Gwood Springs. There is bus service between the two. But there is little to do in Aspen, itself, if you are not into skiing or very expensive shopping. Hotel Denver is just across for the public hot spring pools. It is huge and an experience for one day. There are other activities but not easy to get around with a car. You could do a one day trip to the wine country around Palisades.

Glenwood Springs is one of my favorite stops on the Amtrak California Zephyr. You don't have to rent a car since there is great bus service to Aspen and Maroon Bells. https://www.rfta.com/routes/roaring-fork-valley/
For an interesting hike in GWS, hike up to the old cemetery to see the monument for Doc Holliday. He isn't buried under it (interesting story).
I did see someone swimming in the worlds largest hot spring fed pool in December one year.

THanks for posting everyone. I have looked at Aspen and wondered what I would do. PRice is a concern since will be 8 nights or so. ASpen and Denver more expensive,
I found a couple VRBO that might work.
I have never skied and since alone I think best not to try since I did break nose in 3 places earlier this year.

When in November? Swimming in the hot springs pool is great year round. I have done it. Really super with snow. GWS not busy in November except around Thanksgiving. Could be wrong but I think historic Hotel Colorado is closed for remodeling.
There is a three story motor lodge adjacent to the pool that has balconies if memory serves. Name escapes me, maybe Glenwood Motor Lodge. Town center with shops and restaurants is across the river as is Hotel Denver.
A day trip to Aspen would be fun. Beautiful scenery. Enjoy window shopping there. Depending on your mobility a walk in the neighborhoods highlights old homes as well as extreme remodels. A drink in Hotel Jerome or on sunny patio is wonderful, or stay there if affordable for you.
How many days will you have? Don't eliminate staying in Aspen. Other than the GWS pool I prefer Aspen. I'm guessing either would work depending on where hunters would take you and what you like to do.I would CALL both visitor centers with a list of questions especially pedestrian and vehicle access during construction in GWS. If the ski mountains are open Aspen would be busier and quite pricey.

I missed the eight nites in your response. Sorry. Maybe split time between the two. But I think I would pass on tagging. Neither town has enough going on in November to keep me busy even for four days. You could take Amtrak to Denver from GWS and find plenty, but as you say pretty expensive. From where are you coming? Could hunters drop you off in Denver? Where did you think to rent car? Are they available in Glenwood? Not a good time of year for a Colorado road tripthough. Wouldn't think of driving to Denver from the western slope in the winter. Options to the west limited also.

Would you like to learn to fly fish? The area around Glenwood Springs would be good. A fly shop could outfit you.
Stay in Denver for a few days and then go up to the mountains. Colorado does a GREAT job of clearing roads in case of snow, and there could be no snow at that time--as well as a lot.
If you have any desire to go to CO, do it--it's such a great state. LOTS to do of all kinds of things.
