Girls Weekend, Savannah/Tybee in May??

Hi everyone! I'm planning a 30th birthday for myself and two best friends for mid May. We are New Yorkers and one of my friends grew up going to Fire Island so I figure, why not go visit another great American beach town. We like to chill out on the beach, ride bikes, eat eat eat, sight see and shop. Do you recommend Savannah and Tybee or maybe another great city (Bermuda, Caribbean or somewhere a bit warmer than NY). If we do Tybee we were thinking of maybe staying at one of the Mermaid cottages, does anyone have experience with these?
Thanks as always for the sage advice!

hello luluk

Tybee is a great beach imo. Huge. You may try searching for a B & B ... or vrbo.com (vacation rental by owner). Renting a home or someplace with a kitchen is a big savings. Also, Savannah is too much fun along the riverfront. And it is beautfiul, esp. in May. The architecture, the squares, the history, ahhh... i'd definitely go there! http://savannahvisit.com/50reasons I usually don't care to return to where I've been, (because there is always somewhere new) but I've been back there multiple times. Have agreat time - I think you've a great plan - memorable for your 30th!

You'd recommend Tybee over Sea Island? What part of the island do you think we'd like to stay best? Also do you know any great little hotels in Savannah?
Thanks!

I think Tybee for your demographic. It is so great. We always stay at the River Street Inn.

But I think you'd have more fun staying out at the beach and coming into town for day trips when you're not enjoying the sun.
