Girls weekend in MV

Three young 50ish friends going to MV the end of July for a long weekend. Any suggestions for a place to stay within walking distance of a beach and restaurants? Any comments on the 1720 House?
Thanks for any suggestions or comments.

roegall,

Just giving you a bad time. Since I live on the west coast....I really didn't know where you were talking about.

I honestly thought it was going to be Mt. Vernon but I really didn't know.

OK, let's stop giving roegall a bad time. She said it was Martha's Vinyard.

defran--are think you are thinking of the home port in menemsha? my husband loves this place--i think he really loves the atmostphere around it because i don't think the food is all that great for the money. but you can't go wrong with lobster on the vineyard.

i can't help with lodging. we stay with friends who live on the island. but i can recommend their favorite restaurant--alchemy in edgartown. we've been there a few times and always enjoyed it.

Thanks for all of the sarcasm (joking) As a first time visitor, I just learned you can't change the topic. I'm still looking for a place to stay. I've stayed in Edgartown before so I'd like to try someplace new- either Vineyard Haven or Oaks Bluff- any recommendations?

But you can simply start a brand new post and put Martha's Vineyard in the name ;-)

I can recommend the Mansion House in Vineyard Haven. It was newly built a couple of years ago, and the room we had last year was very nice.It also has an indoor pool, and is an easy walk to the Ferry.

We loved the Ashley Inn in Edgartown (even though you wanted another town)- Nice innkeepers, homemade cookies and lemonade on the hammocks after returning from the beach, nice rooms. I think Edgartown is much more pedestrian friendly that the other towns and a little more quaint. Have fun!

Thanks Diazkris.. I actually loved Edgartown, but where is there a beach near it? We'd like to be able to walk to the beach as we won't have a car.

We took the bus to the beach-a different beach everyday. It is very reliable, leaves every 5 minutes, and very close to the Ashley Inn. Have fun!

You stayed in Edgartown and missed the beach? How odd. It's the sandy part between the land and the water. Next to the light house, off North Water Street. I'd recommend the Harborview, which is directly across from the beach, around the corner from another, and a 4 minute walk into the center of edgartown. Their sunday brunch is probably the best on the island (coach house)

The other 2 main beaches in edgartown, South Beach and State Beach, would require hopping on a bus. You'll prefer the Lighthouse beach unless you like waves, I'm guessing.

There are better/cheaper options than homeport in Menemsha, though I confess I'm a little loathe to put them on the internet.
