Girls trip, Golden Isles?

I have an opportunity to visit the coast of Georgia with a friend, probably in November. King & Price vs. Jekyll Island Club. Is either better for two young women traveling without their mates? Or should we head elsewhere? What else might we do once we got there, besides relax and enjoy?

Ooops. I made a mistake in my post. The options would be Jekyll Island Club or Village Inn.

Is the Village Inn on St Simons? I can't remember. Anyway, the Jekyll Island Club is very nice. Jekyll is very laid back and there is nothing to do at night - no clubs and very few bars. St Simons has little beach and is very populated. It just depends on what you and your friend want to do.

The Jekyll Island Club is a very nice, full service hotel in an old building on quiet Jekyll Island. It has wondrful wrap around porches with rocking chairs and views of the lawn down to the water. The Village Inn is over on St. Simons right in the midst of the village. It is also very nice but you might have some night noises from the pub across the street.

I have to disagree with the former post. St.Simons would be my recommendation for a girls weekend without a doubt! As a Georgia native, and longtime visitor to the Golden Isles, and can tell you that you will find your selections of activities and restaurants VERY limited on Jekyll. There is the Milionaires village, which of course is fun, but after you pay for that tour and have walked through the old homes, you still have half a day to kill. Other than the beautiful unspoiled beaches and the wonderful restaurant at the Jekyll Island Club, unless you are content to retire to bed at 8:00 pm, you will find yourself looking for activities/restaurants and will have to drive over the bridge to St.Simons. While by no means not a "clubbing" kind of place, St.Simons manages to balance a the elegance of fine restaurants and shops set in a historic community, with a fun relaxed atmosphere for a girls who might want enjoy a real community atmosphere. Gnats Landing in the Redfern Village off of Fredrica Rd. has a myriad of great restaurants and Gnats Landing is a very popular place with college age/young professionals especially on the weekends when they have outdoor entertainment. Of course, like everything on this island, you will see many families as well, but the later crowds tend to be more that age. The Blue Water Grill is right in the village and is situated next to the old pier/lighthouse area, and has recently been bought out and renovated with a rooftop view of the ocean and some weekend entertainment....then there is the trolley tour and the ghost walk which is always a lot of fun. Of course Jekyll does have Summer Waves Water Park but you may have outgrown the long dripping lines of teenagers who come over from Brunswick on the weekends. The Village Inn is cute but the rooms are very small, you would probably like the Beach Club better. Hope you have a great time!
